I'll give you a reason NOT to stick with Gen 1: Those damn commercials are too good. lol
Serious q: Why didn't they promote the 86/BRZ's this hard? Did they have doubts about it? I'm keeping my 1st gen despite the 2nd gen getting all the praise in the universe mainly due to not wanting to go through the motions of selling (although I've heard the resale on these is great right now) and spending another $15k. On top of that, there isn't anything on my car right now that makes me so upset that I have to have an upgrade although the radio sounds like trash. I'm going to guess that it ends up a future classic and I'll have fun with it as a weekend driver when I'm retired. |

I think I can sum this up with my experience from owning an 04 WRX for 18 years. There were plenty of debates about which is the best, bugeye,, blobeye, Hawkeye, 2009 and all the new ones up to 2022. I did leave out that dreaded 2008 model. All in all, the essence and experience of the car were very similar with various different generations having some ups and some downs, and personal taste on looks out weighing anything. I think in time it will be the same for the twins. One thing I know is you will have fun in either car. For now I am sticking with Gen 1, but I will test drive a Gen 2 someday and who knows what could happen after that.

What I am REALLY looking forward to is how my 2022 is going to feel with those same headers, tuned, and on e85. I may be wrong, but I expect that to rival the acceleration of my 2007 e92 BMW 335 - which would make me over-the-moon happy. And yes, before anybody jumps down my throat, I understand these cars are about more than acceleration. |

I've got a 2nd gen on order, but every time I take my 1st gen (e85/weight reduction/coilovers/BBK/various bushings) on a fun drive, I'm convinced I'm not going to sell it. It is so responsive and fun to drive. I will be very disappointed if the 2nd doesn't live up to the hype

I saw one in the wild at a dealership in the last few days. Seeing it in person just cemented my already stated dislike for the design changes. The interior is nice though.

Yeah I agree objectively it will certainly be better. It’s more whether I’ll like the subjective aspects as you said (exterior/interior design, engine sound, steering feel, etc.). It’ll be interesting to see. Bit of a risk but I think worth the gamble, especially if the new one responds well to e85.
