Toyota’s going all in showing a bunch of ev concepts including the LFA successor, MR2ish vehicle and FJ inspired ev suv. Lexus supposed to become a pure ev brand by 2030-2035.

I like the FJ EV but a EV off roader is a terrible idea to me

Eh no. Lol. Military does do their research but they are extremely slow at adopting things. I know this from experience being a mechanic in the Army. They’ve been talking about EVs in the military forever but there was a bunch of issues everywhere from having either contractors or boots (a lot of people don’t even know how to use a multimeter) fixing the vehicles, reliability/durability in extreme weather conditions, recharging in the field etc.

Ya I posted it mostly tongue in cheek! For one thing the "article" is 6 years old so the whole "quoted"10 year timeline is over half past already.

Yea, I could see a diesel electric design having some benefits (maybe tanks already run that way, I'm not an expert), but pure electric seems just nonsensical for tanks, or any battlefield vehicle.

The last thing that I would want is to have an E-1 do an PCC, PCI, PMCS, on an electric vehicle lol. Not to mention giving the instruction to the mafia just to have them pass it down to another boot. We can barely do a proper PMCS on a diesel truck/equipment.

Yep hybrid tanks make a pile of sense since the reduction in fuel alone has a huge impact on logistics. We discussed one of the first on here not long ago actually.

In Germany we had competitions against the US Army during some joint exercises. One of these was to see who could change the engine in a Jeep (well an M-151 so close enough) the fastest. Two Canadian mechanics would do it in a little under 45 minutes. Took six Americans almost 2 hours. The biggest slow down was waiting while each "Specialty Team" stepped in to do their small part of the task. First the electrical guys unhooked the wiring. Then the fuel system expert unhooked the lines. Then the bolt specialists unbolted everything. Finally the lift crew removed the engine. It was a cluster fuck!

I have a picture of all the stenciling on a US 5 ton someplace at home. It was obviously done for people that had no clue how to do anything. Things like "remove lock pin and pull here" on the tailgate latches were funny but the "fill to this line" stenciled on the outside of the solid fuel tank with zero way of seeing inside was hilarious.

We had zero instructions on our identical trucks.

The truck looks pretty promising. Of course, that said, these could all be the very conceptiest of concept vehicles, just rolling chassis thrown together for looks alone.
