I believe that is a trim wheel, used to make minor adjustments on the trim tab in the elevator in the tail to hold altitude.

The wheel makes sense (I had no idea what it did) but why would the pilot be playing around with that in such turbulent conditions?

Basically, its used to relieve yoke pressure to hold pitch. You get the pitch angle you want with the yoke (either forward or back) then use the trim wheel to trim to the point where you can take your hands off the yoke and still maintain that pitch position. Ultimately, you are trimming "nose up", "nose down".

I don't know this plane so I can't say for sure. In most planes it takes a large movement of the trim wheel to make a small difference. What I saw was he touched it a lot, but seemed to be using it as a hand rest more than anything else.

Boats also have these to hold them "on plane".

I would totally buy this today if it had a decent range and I could verify it flies out of ground effect (they never show it at any significant altitude). Current flight time is 20 minutes, and that's with a 185lb pilot. Too much range anxiety even for a toy!

If it did, it better come with an emergency chute. I wouldn't go near any rotorcraft that can't autorotate. He's smack in the middle of the dead zone. One hiccup and he's nothing but a skid mark.

Yea completely agree. It can fly with one engine out, but that's not enough redundancy for me. I think the site does mention a ballistic chute but that's not going to do you much good down low.

The even bigger danger is if you hit something with the prop tip and it goes flying into you
