Comparing street drag to the real thing is like saying you drive the same on the track as you do tooling around downtown TO at rush hour.
Yes it only lasts a few seconds but those few seconds can be glorious.

Though I am not usually a huge fan of drag races I am thoroughly enjoying this show, about 4 episodes in and it cool to see what people piece together and the reasons why they build their cars. Would be interesting to see a follow with a different type of racing as well.

My favorite car movie on Netflix right now is Wheelman. Best representation of a hero car in any film. Not overdone but just the right amount of limelight to be impactful. Not an all out car movie but it's peppered with small details that only car guys would notice and appreciate.

Drag racing can be fun...you just have to be in the right frame of mind for it. If you had a head start and crossed the starting line already going 200mph, a Top Fuel dragster would still beat you to the finish line. That's some brutal acceleration. And part of the reason Don Garlits retired when he did was that his eyesight was being impacted by racing...his retinas were detaching from the back of his eyeballs from the g's experienced when pulling the parachute at the end of the track, which is in excess of 6Gs.

Some more interesting stats...a bit dated, but still impressive...

Under full throttle, a dragster engine consumes 11.2 gallons of nitro methane per second; a fully loaded 747 consumes jet fuel at the same rate with 25% less energy being produced.

There is no way this is accurate. They do not have 40-50 gallons of nitro on board.

I fly on 747s often, many times for 15 hours, they do not hold 600,000 gallons of jet fuel.

"A plane like a Boeing 747 uses approximately 1 gallon of fuel (about 4 liters) every second. Over the course of a 10-hour flight, it might burn 36,000 gallons (150,000 liters). According to Boeing's Web site, the 747 burns approximately 5 gallons of fuel per mile (12 liters per kilometer)."

Not to mention that comparing the energy produced by nitro methane against kerosene based jet fuel is ludicrous to start with.

The number given is the amount of fuel that the dragster would use per second at wide open throttle. The actual amount used for the whole run is about 20 gallons.

The chrome one? Can he be real? Seriously? How does one become that much of a tool? He's just laughable.

Too much crying, fake drama and seriousness for me. Its just TV fodder, even some of the participants don't know much about cars, they were picked more for the life stories.
