Valve spring swap
Has anyone done a valve spring swap with the engine in the car? Is there a tool that I don't know about, like the Company 23 spring compressor, that would make the task easier?
By the looks of it, the driver side seems to have a little more room than the passenger side, but that all relative. There isn't much on either side. |

Pull the engine it’s easier....
When you pull off cam carrier you’ll probably end up dropping all the rockers and make a huge mess and it’ll be a pain cleaning old three bony off the side with the engine still in. However do as you’d like and if you are going to do it in car post about it please I would wanna see how that goes for you Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Damn, I was trying not to pull the engine for a spring swap...
If I'm going to do that, I should just throw some rods and pistons in it... |

Not trying to thread-jack, sorry.
But, do you need to pull the heads to swap valve springs+retainers. I was looking at this set: https://www.maperformance.com/collec...rz-frs-gsc5056 I think 9k rpm would be a nice change haha. Thanks! |

No, the head can stay on the block, but you have to pull the cams, of course and that is a difficult order in the car. Pulling them is probably easier than reinstalling them in the engine bay.

Yes, it would require a lot of work. Not only would you have to remove the cams and cam cage/carriers, but obviously the timing chains. Which means you need to pull off the front engine cover. Which means you need to pull off all the accessories and pulleys on the engine. Which means getting new gaskets as well as scraping off all the old sealant and laying down some new one. Then torquing everything properly. A lot easier with the engine out of the car. Pulling the engine is a hell of a lot easier than pulling the cams out.

The rockers might fall out of place when you’re trying to put it back together and you probably won’t notice it, also might not get the sealant on right so it’s possible it’ll leak
Another thing is you might have a hard time putting the keepers back on |
