First off, Congrats! Secondly, you are a year off--don't overthink. And if you want to sign the document the same day, just have an "officiant" at the wedding. Thats all you need to make it legal on that exact day.

And the day you do the ceremony is your anniversary date. Keep it simple.

Reminds me of a story....

There was a group of coworkers that pretty much all saw the writing on the wall (layoffs) and left our employer round about the same time. We all reported to the same Director, who was known for squeezing a penny really REALLY hard.

As each of us gave our notice over a 3 or 4 week period the story was always the same. He'd listen, ask why we are leaving and then say "well everyone always thinks the grass is always greener, but that just means you have to mow it more often".

By the time I found a new position I had had this relayed back to me multiple times, so I went in prepared.

We went through the normal mechanics, he shook my hand and rolled out the old adage. My response was

"Yea, but they've promised to provide me a lawn mower instead of a pair of dull scissors so I think I'll be OK."

Fortunately, he had a great sense of humor and we still laugh about it 20 years later when we bump into each other. He always asks "so how's the lawn mower?"
