Still no fix yet. No leaks, and my ECU is grounded. At this point, I am thinking for some reason my car does not like the CARB tune. I am going to get a custom tune in the new year and see if that fixes the issue.

Can anyone help me out? Is your bypass valve not aligned perfectly? I attached pics of it when opened and closed. You can see the misalignment at the base of the valve how the rod comes out. From the looks of it, it would fail a lot sooner because of this. It would be that thin rubber cup on the inside grinding crooked everytime the vacuum drops. Am I the only one or is this normal?

It is connected to an assembly that rotates. If it is aligned at one point in the rotation is must have an angle at another.
That looks normal to me. |

I suppose you could enforce longitudinal motion by cutting the arm, adding a second mount with a hole in it for the rod to slide through and then a hinge like a single chain link to the middle. I have a theory that by sourcing the vacuum where they did, a spot the sees both vacuum and boost, they are causing extra wear to the diaphragm. My first actuator lasted two months. After switching to a vacuum-only source the replacement has been in use for over a year. Only a single data point, but it seems to be ok so far. |

I think im around 4k miles since installation, bypass valve still holding. I still get surprised now and then by the power my car puts out. Especially in 2nd gear, pulls very hard.
Averaging 27 mpg which is 1mpg less than what i was before, which is nuts to me.

Strictly speaking no. But removing the stock headers only removes the precat, which scrubs the exhaust for only the first 30 seconds or so before the main cat heats up. Most states simply use an OBDII check to see if everything is compliance and if you are tuned for it there will be no codes.
This won't work in CA I'm guessing. |
