Another (frustrating) update: David from Subaru of America called me. He said this buzzing noise under the dash is a "normal characteristic of the car" and had the audacity to call it a "harmonic noise." I told him that an engine revving and road noise from tires are normal "harmonic noises," and that buzzing under the dash is not. Basically, Subaru is not looking into this issue and Toyota probably isn't either. He wouldn't even call it an issue, I had to tell him that he needed to document it as a problem and I don't really believe that he did.

I could go on and on about the insulting things he told me (him: "What is the noise affecting then if it's a problem?" me: "I don't know, you guys can't even tell me where it's coming from. My mechanic told me he's heard similar noises on a different Subaru and some welds were coming apart in the firewall."), but there is no fix, and there probably won't ever be one.

Point being: if you guys have this issue, bring your car in immediately. They aren't going to look into this until more people complain.

He gave me his number, and I plan on calling it every once in a while until they admit they're working on a fix.

On a side note, he actually admitted that they are working on a fix to the fuel pump chirping. I guess enough people complained about that.

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but this is still on happening on newer model BRZs, mine is a 2017. I get the same buzzing as the ones in the videos in this thread. It seems to only happen when I fully take my foot off the gas pedal after accelerating. So, this would happen every time I brake, since my foot is off the gas pedal. Once I place my foot back on the gas pedal, even a slight bit, the buzzing goes away.

Just wondering if anybody has a complete fix for this issue yet? Is anybody else still having this buzzing problem?

Is it this one @ 40 seconds? [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PbmmV2ujX3E"]2014 BRZ gt86 frs dash rattle (gas pedal mount?) - YouTube[/ame]

Try it with cruise control on and let me know if it still buzzes. Mine would not buzz under cruise control, but would under normal pedal use. unscrewing the pedal and adding felt was the 'fix' that made it much less prominent.

Yea, that's the exact sound I'm getting. I'll try it with cc and post what I found out. I will try the supposed felt fix, thanks.

Well got some good news and bad news for me. Good news is I fixed the buzzing problem. I unscrewed the two nuts/bolts holding the pedal mechanism, and put some foam padding w/ doubled sided tape directly onto the pedal mount. I didn't have any felt around, so used foam padding instead, tested and working great, no buzzing at all speeds.

The bad news is that while putting the pedal back on, I tightened one of the nuts too much and the bolt literally broke in half. It's now being held on by just one nut/bolt. I wiggled it around and it seemed to hold steady, but it just doesn't seem safe. I'm thinking I can bring it in to the dealership and say one of the bolts broke off after stepping on the pedal the wrong way? Or say the pedal feels loose and if they can look at it and they'll see that a bolt broke off? I'll make sure to take off the foam padding first so they don't think I messed with it. Anybody have other suggestions for getting this replaced under warranty?

It's a bolt. It's not going to be very expensive. Just go to the parts dept at your favorite dealer, tell them the part you need, and replace it with a fresh bolt. It's really more hassle to try to get it covered under warranty than just buying and replacing the inexpensive part you broke.

Checking back into this thread because I have this same issue, been around very shortly after getting the car. I'm up past 2,000 miles on it now, and it seems to be more frequent. The way it buzzes it sounds like it's coming from the driver side speaker, but I'm going to check out my pedal and see if it goes away...hopefully without snapping any bolts myself.

I had that same noise (40sec mark) happen to me at about a minute into cold startup this morning. I heard it the whole time I had the car on (under idle and load). Came back to my car after work and it was gone. I was worried something was up when it happened because my 2016 FR-S is only has 4,900 miles on it.

It's not just a bolt you can replace easily. The bolt is actually welded on the underside. The dealership said they'll fix it under warranty. I came in for my first oil change, and played dumb and told them the pedal felt loose and if they can check it. I took off the cushioning before giving it to them.

They're taking their sweet time too, it's been over 2 weeks and they still have my car. It took a week just to get the part in. They weren't able to do it there, so they had to take it to a third party body shop. I've been driving in a rental minivan the last two weeks, and getting anxious to get my car back . After many calls and runarounds, it looks like I'll have it back tomorrow. I'll probably have to apply the cushion again and hopefully I don't break it again

So...if the bolt is welded, are you surprised you snapped it? Given that additional information, I'm not.

EDIT: Hang on, had to reread the original chatter about this. Now the welding thing is confusing me more because how'd it come off cleanly in the first place, then? And my point was, in the same way the dealer ordered the part to fix it for you, you could have had them order it for you and DIY.

It didn't come off cleanly. Tightening the nut broke the bolt in half, so half the bolt is still welded on, and there's not enough thread to put a nut on top. No way am I going to attempt to weld it myself.

Well, I got my car back after 17 days, and they actually put in a brand new gas pedal for some reason, I guess that was the part that they ordered. They also provided me with my old gas pedal, which is only 4 months old, lol. It looks like they welded a new bolt on the underside. There's no buzzing noise so far, so I won't attempt to take off the gas pedal again. I will give an update if it returns.

Ok, now I get what you're saying. Wasn't thinking about nut & bolt, just bolt. Sorry about that.

Glad you were able to get it fixed, and at least you have a spare pedal assembly in case anything happens to that one, or you can sell it and put a few extra bucks in your pocket.
