Trunk release failure - BRZ
Interior trunk release switch under the steering wheel has no effect. Exterior switch on the trunk lid has no effect. Button on remote doesn't work.
Mechanical key does work. Valet trunk disable is NOT engaged. Tried it both on and off. Has anyone else encountered this issue? A search on this forum didn't show any others. I've had the car 2 weeks, 1350kms. All methods of opening the trunk worked fine until today. Thanks! Stephanie |

I have had this happen when I really load up the trunk. Once I take all the stuff out it is fine again.

hmm, never had more than 2 bags of groceries in it. Probably just a simple electrical fault. Time to test out Docksteader's famous service department.

Hopefully the service manager sees this as a common problem and start thinking about what to do.

I just had a problem with trunk. The car was unlocked and the internal trunk release button and the physical trunk handle both failed to open the trunk. However, the trunk opener on the remote control key fob worked. Once the trunk was opened, i haven't seen the issue again.

There's no way to get into the trunk from the interior without taking the back seat apart, so the glow in the dark emergency release isn't so helpful in this case.

the OP can use her key to open the trunk... but no electronic trunk release function works... which leads me to have her check the button first...
as for wparsons/newguyottawa, you would have to open the trunk once to figure out why your latch isn't working... usually the key cylinder will work regardless of wiring/electronic issues... only problems would be if it's been apart before and not reassembled properly... or the latch or key cylinder are hooped...

fix for mine.
I was reading this thread then walked out to the car after calling the dealership...I was told that we have a small key port under the edge of the lid that was for our key...I had no idea it was even there. But I opened it up just to find that the oil jug i had in the trunk had hit the trunk cancel button not allowing me to open it up. Pushed the button back in and no more problems opening it up. My mistake. I'm an idiot. I guess I should stop taking hard turns with stuff in the trunk lol.

This happened to me before. It doesn't stop your key from working, although I thought it did too. You have have to turn it harder which I was afraid of doing because I didn't want to break anything.
I turned harder using both hands and it opened. Then I released the oddly placed trunk lock feature on the left side.

It doesn't help that the key is a tiny little nub that is hard to apply force to...
If the key turns but the trunk doesn't open, then it might not be the valet-disable switch... |
