I dont think that is what he meant... It was more toward that fact it would be nice for some other sub 30k options. Ya ya the Z is nice but i personally dont think its worth the MSRP. It does have power and looks nice but it still handles like a boat when you compare it to a FRs or miata. (yes i have driven them enough to compare). Well I wont even say its not worth MSRP that the wrong way to word it... its more like you have no option up untill that point. The Z is more aimed toward the SS camaro and GT mustang, as the price would suggest. I think some people would rather just have a sub 30k rwd car that is "quick" and handles amazingly. If Nissan were to bring something in at that pricing I think it would be excellent. Same with Honda and Mits. I think every other company has somthing for that offering. |

Too big, too heavy, too expensive, not rwd

A new SX in the vein of the S13 and FR-S/BRZ twins A new Z similar in overall size/weight to that, but with the engine/driver moved aft ~20" (no back seat) for better weight distribution A new rwd 2-, 4-, and 5-door 510esque lineup on the same platform as well. I'd probably buy two cars out of such a lineup over the next two years. Not gonna happen of course... |

You have to understand where I'm coming from - if you asked me to name a classic sports car the first words out of my mouth would be "Datsun 240Z". This would be immediately followed by things like the MGB, TR6, and Toyota 2000GT. Light, small displacement, great handling cars.
Nissan used to do a bang up job of appealing to this segment, and did so for years. Besides the 240Z and its successors, you also had the excellent Silvia line. Then they watched too much CSPAN while listening to Kenny G and had the fantastic (sarcasm) idea that an Altima Coupe was really what people wanted. The GT-R and 370Z are a fantastic showing. We'd just like them to take the next logical step and bring back the light, nimble Silvia/Z cars of old. If they don't, well, I'm happy with my FR-S.

I don't understand why this is so difficult, Nissan:
Step 1: acquire a late-model S15 Silvia Step 2: place a worked-over Juke motor in engine bay (I'm thinking 1.8L turbo would be best) Step 3: test other current parts-bin stuff on it to keep costs low Step 4: design new chassis Step 5: build test mule Step 6: test test mule Step 7: develop production model Step 8: market production model as 180SX/Silvia Step 9: begin production Step 10: PROFIT Eat that, Charles Ghosn!!! I can do your job better than you can!

I fail to see how this is a competitor to the BRZ/FR-S. Did Nissan actually say that, or is that a TopSpeed.com take on the car?

"Internally known as the Mini-Z, the new sports car won’t be offered with a rear-wheel-drive system like the Silvia/240SX - that project was cancelled in late 2008 because of the financial crisis. Instead Nissan will use a front-wheel-drive system combined with 1.6-liter turbo-four from the Nissan Juke with power raised to about 200 HP." Good catch on the styling bit, although if they're going to style this as a coupe instead of the hatch shown, you have to wonder how this is going to be different from the FWD Altima coupe. Looking at Nissan's lineup from a marketing standpoint, bringing a sporty FWD hatch to the market (which they don't currently have) makes more sense than developing a second FWD coupe which would cannibalize sales. I guess we'll see though, perhaps Nissan thinks there is space in its lineup for a FWD coupe smaller than the Altima. |

I highly doubt Nissan will bring the Silvia back because like somebody else said, it will cannibalize the sales of the Z.
If anything, I think Renault is probably behind this malarkey. Nissan doesn't have to make anymore sporty cars, they have 3 of them. Toyota definitely needs to step their game up and bring back the MR2. |
