Yup, to quote Deadpool... thats the money shot. You should have the second dealer write up that they believe that could contribute to oil starvation. Take that to Toyota Corp

Yes that's what you're looking for. Although, it is not as bad as some of us had. There is still bunch of sealant blocking it pick up screen, and probably more blocking oil galleria elsewhere in the engine as well. Now you got some proof that recall work was done poorly. Try to work things out with the managers, don't go yelling and screaming, but at the same time don't let em fk u over.

Google/yelp review with some of those pictures might get things moving, if they are still not willing to fix it.

Ouch... did they replace anything else other than the short block? i think you're supposed to replace pretty much everything where oil flows through. My dealer replaced timing cover as well. My engine is running good so far, hitting 500 miles soon.

They didn't replace the shortblock, which is why they're having to deal with my car again. They just tried to replace rod bearings and turn the crank. They didn't even replace the rod that had the bearing spin, so I knew this was coming in one way or another.

God this sucks to hear.
Honestly I may just pay cash to buy a built short block motor for my FI setup that has been collecting dust forever. They paid to have it towed back to them, but if they are doing anything other than new short block, I may give up on them.

I'm saving my scream for when I need to re-stain my deck this summer. It's been 3 years since I had to do it. At least I'm still not PAYING them for this work..

and it's not the dealerships call, at least with Subaru. The Technical Service Engineer that covers the dealership with the car in question, makes the call as to what parts get replaced.

Me? Of course I see. I'm the original skeptic. Once again for everyone else, without going into a ten page lecture drawing from undergraduate mechanics and material science courses, the parts that were going to fail already did long ago. Break-in was a weeding-out process for the statistical outliers.

Just

say

no.

"Could contribute" ???

How about - "yeah this definitely nuked this guy's fucking motor. Give him a free engine and get your mechanic's some training in how to actually BE mechanics for fuck's sake".

And that is just what the pickup managed to get. Anything introduced to the system after the filter but before getting back to the pan is still in the channels.

So here is what my service adviser said the problem was after the recall:

"Flywheels damaged due to set pins" - this is what caused the noise when I was accelerating and braking after the recall. They are ordering parts.

What does this mean? I did an initial google and it seems like flywheels are only on MT vehicles. I definitely have an auto. Want to get a basic understanding of what could have occurred and where if someone here is interested in schooling me.

Automatic cars typically have clutch packs, but they don't have a flywheel. I'm assuming the transmission pins are what they were referencing, as they are used for alignment between engine and transmission. I wonder what actually got damaged though...
