I am curious if it will come to Canada. If it does and it is sub $70K (cars cost more here and please nobody apply the exchange rate to that and say it is only $XXX since I will not be paying in US$) I may be interested.

EDIT:

"When is it coming? To the United States? Soon. To Canada? Never. Subaru Tecnica International — that’s what STI stands for — has constricted production so tightly that there’s none left over for the Great White North."

Considering the RA was 50k and the S209 has a lot more upgrades and is more exclusive, I think it's pretty safe to say that it'll definitely be more than 50k. S20X cars have always been like that though.

The base S208 was $50.8k (using JPY to USD conversion) and the NBR Challenge S208 was $57.7k. This US version S209 is basically a US version of the S208 with some added on fender flares and an extra 20hp.

That being said, my guess is this car will slide in to the mid 50k range as far as pricing goes (before the inevitable dealer markup)

Subaru Technica International (STI)
S Series First model for the US market "S209" announced
● The STI Complete Car's highest peak "S series" First model for the US market
● Aiming for "speed" which can be manipulated by the driver's intention, greatly improving performance from the base car
● The output of the successive S series highest level
● Strong undercarriage supporting enhanced engine power
● Equipped with special exterior parts such as wide fender and front bumper canard
● Implementation of "enhancement of sports model · evolution of STI model" listed in the medium-term management vision "STEP"
Is a motor sports oversee會社of SUBARU Subaru Tecnica International stock會社* 1 (Ryaku稱: STI) is, at the 2019 North American INTERNATIONAL Auto Show being held at Beikuni Detroit, Beikuni market becomes "S series" first We announced model "S209".

* 1: Subaru Technica International Co., Ltd. (Representative: Yoshio Hirakawa, Mitaka City, Tokyo)

"S209" is a model in which STI developed exclusively for engine and underbody based on WRX STI, and added special equipment also for inside and outside equipment. In order to realize "speed" which can be manipulated by the driver's intention "which is the ultimate form of" speed "considered by STI, we have achieved significant performance improvement over the base model. As the STI tuned model for the U.S., it will be the third round following the WRX STI Type RA and SUBARU BRZ tS released last year, but this "S 209" is the first in the S Series Complete Car's highest peak "S series".

Based on the EJ 25 dedicated to the US specification WRX STI, the engine aims at optimum power that can step on the accelerator pleasantly in all situations with peace of mind, and conducted exclusive tuning. For air intake system, we adopted dedicated large air cleaner and dedicated air intake duct to drastically reduce intake resistance, making efficient air intake system. In addition, we adopted a large development turbocharger of exclusive development. The exclusively designed low-backpressure muffler with a large-bore tail pipe is adopted also in the exhaust system. By controlling these with a dedicated ECU, the maximum output demonstrates 341 hp (development target value), which is the highest STI model in history. By installing an intercooler water spray, the performance deterioration due to heat is suppressed, and by adopting a specially designed forged piston and a forged connecting rod, reliability as quantity engine is secured.

In the suspension, equipped with 19-inch forged wheels made by BBS wearing Dunlop 265 / 35R 19 high grip tire with the largest width in successive STI models. This is combined with exclusively developed Bilstein damper, dedicated coil spring, reinforced bush, and it is housed in exclusive wide body expanded by over fender. Furthermore, in addition to STI's own flexible parts such as the strut tower bar and draw stiffener which have been proved in the Nürburgring 24 Hour racing car, the carbon roof which is lightweight and enhances car body rigidity is adopted. High handling performance is realized by arranging the various aero parts which arrange the flow of air such as front under spoiler, front bumper side canard, large dry wing made of dry carbon, and increase downforce.

"S209" which adopted the two colors of WR blue pearl (wheel color: matte gray), crystal white pearl (wheel color: matte gold) as the exterior color of the body was sold at the SUBARU dealer in the US in 2019 We plan to sell limited to inside.

In building "a strong brand" aimed at the mid-term management vision "STEP", SUBARU has set up "enhancement of sports model and evolution of STI model" as one of the direction of product introduction, and this time "S209 "Is an example of its implementation. Going forward, SUBARU aims to "build a strong brand" and will continue to focus on strengthening the product lineup that stands out more distinctively.

Not sure why Nismo here can spec Recaro Sportster CS that are pretty wide and not Subaru.

Other than those fatty Recaro seats that look stupidly similar to the ones Audi used to spec here for the S and RS cars long ago, and the lack of a CF roof, I think it seems to have pretty much everything else from the supposedly JDM car (if there would be one).

Good enough! Now who's gonna buy one for its intended purposes and not to flip?

We'll have to wait and see. Many are saying that it doesn't worth to pay above a point for a Subaru. After all it is a Subaru ... Personally, I have objections on this.

The guys that complain about prices for cars are not the target demographic for that particular car anyway. Even if they think they should be. Any car is worth the money to somebody and if they made a special version of a Subaru that cost $100,000 there would still be people that could and would buy it. Hell there could be a waiting list for them.
Price and value are subjective to the income of the buyer. To me the FRS is a cheap throw away sports car that I can use up and replace when I feel it is time but to others it is an expensive luxury to be pampered forever. Neither group is wrong they just have different perspectives.

Weird how our brains can work since I would seriously have considered one of these but have zero interest in buying a Supra. I can't even explain why the one appeals to me but the other doesn't since I don't know why myself.

Yes, I understand what you mean. For me the s209 should be a car to be pampered forever. It is too special as a model and on a period marking the slow death of the combustion engine. Same it can be said about a few other special editions of BRZ (tS or RA in Japan for example). Not all groups agree with this and there are different perspectives.

I buy cars to use so pampering is not an option. Doesn't mean I deliberately beat it up either. My driving routine has changed dramatically since I bought the FRS so I am now in the position to buy something a bit nicer without feeling bad that I am going to put 50K miles on it in a year. This of course opens up a whole new category of car for me.
