bleh... everything motorized, everything software controlled..

i like the bed features, from the included cover, the air compressor, and the lighting. but electronic locks, motorized panels, and touch sensors in the wheel wells for the charging port are going to spell disaster long term...

it also really irritates me how every individual manufacturer is building their own charging network, making charging even more of a fiasco than it already was...

I'm with you. At the point they show me the only way to adjust the vents is with the middle screen, I'm out.

Pretty much the same here. I could really go for a minimalist version. What I'd really like is a new version of my 06 F150 with a 100hp electric motor on each wheel, 600 mile range, and 30 minute full recharging. I'd like to add power windows, but that's it.

That will never happen. I'll probably leave my truck to one of the kids in my will. But, I find things like the Rivian very cool in their own right. I'm too old and "set in my ways" to really appreciate it, but I still think it's neat.

i'm ok with manual locks, doors, windows, vents, and 300miles per charge.

if rivian could've pulled that off, i'd be seriously considering it despite the 4'8" bed.

i mean, even if they offered a stripped version, it'd still be $40-50k...

Based on what I've seen for GM so far, I expect the Silverado EV to be closer to a "normal truck with a battery". They have certainly gone that way with the Volt and Bolt anyway. The Hummer and the Lyriq both are more upscale, but even they seem to retain a more "standard car" feel in the cabin.

I like a frunk on a truck and all the integrated features like the air compressor. Even the speaker is a nice touch. It seems like it is tailored and marketed for tailgating and glamping more than off roading and towing. Seems wise. Four door crew cab, short bed trucks are what the vast majority of people seem to want. Towing capacity/range, payload and longbed trucks seem to be more for heavy users and commercial applications than what most users need, but what do they want? A Hummer with Dubs or spinners. I think a premium truck like this will do well.

The biggest thing to me is the looks. I like the looks, but it is a little too .com, Apple, Scandinavian design looking, or even a little happy and juvenile looking for many. Some may find it is too much. There is some Range Rover Evoque modern styling that might agree with many premium car buyers. Obviously techy people from Silicone Valley will love it. I’m sure it will sell well enough.

Manual everything works for me to a point. It’s just getting too damn hard to reach across the cab for the window handle.

Oh I'm sure they will sell their share. I could get past the external looks, if it were cheaper and if it had a better interior layout.

Still, I don't think it looks ".com, Apple, Scandinavian design looking". I think it looks like they benchmarked the Ford Flex, decided they liked they way it looked but it wasn't cartoony enough.

Scandinavian design philosophy has influenced US home interiors and everything else, and you will see that influence in many new cars from a Honda's interior to a Tesla's interior, and you will notice the minimalist and functional style applied into simple, clean lines, exposed metal and soft, raw, fabrics influencing Jony Ive's Apple products to the simplicity and tranquility exercised in modern .com website and logo design. But don't take my word for it:

The interior is very well-designed. If you like Scandinavian furniture or the Eames Chair, you’ll like it in there.

The Rivian R1T has a sleek and sophisticated look to its interior, adopting an open, almost Scandinavian-style design language that enhances its spacious feel.

Scandinavian designers are known especially for household goods including furniture, textiles, ceramics, lamps, and glass, but Scandinavian design has been extended to industrial design such as of consumer electronics, mobile phones, and cars.

Oh I get it, I just think you're given them too much credit. Ultimately, it's a zero effort design to me. A box with ugly headlights.

Your Opinion May Vary, and probably does for good reason.
