Also, pay close attention to the % of deaths, which is the percentage of deaths in each month for the age group. (this was quick and dirty, but I think it makes the point of what we are seeing here)

Also, very much not an older person's disease, unless you ignore the disease and only slice a portion of outcomes from having caught it...
Interesting info thanks

Im not sure our UK stats support the claim (for us at least I hope) of not being an older persons disease currently but it could change if we get another variant. But I totally take your point about informed decisions in minors compared to some parent views. My only point was I think it must be hard with all the pier pressure at school to do what you think is right at 12 as an individual and not just because your friends are doing it. Perhaps i don't give 12 years old enough credit, but they can be wildly influenced by social media. Equally it must be hard for parents to say I think you should get the Jab to protect the rest of society and to prevent transmission. (even though our data shows you are unlikely to become seriously ill up to age 25 years old)

That seems different to how we in the UK normally vaccinate I believe. Perhaps i'm wrong (probably) but I guessed we gave children vaccinations (MMR) to mostly prevent children from becoming seriously ill, here it seems we are doing it to help wider society and not directly to save them. I don't think its specifically wrong I just find it an interesting shift if it indeed is a shift.

I also don't know any adult amongst friends and colleagues in the UK that has refused the vaccine, It seems we mostly just want to get on with it. However the uptake of the vaccine for workers in healthcare is strangely lower than the national average? Which is the one place I kind of assumed they would want to protect themselves and the patients, especially considering they correctly complained about not having enough PPE at the beginning to protect themselves. I see in the US they are making it mandatory?

In 50 years time we will be able to look back on this period of time an reflect, assess and read many books about the rights and wrongs... And most likely not learn anything from it to help the next generation

You looked at deaths only. Possibly from a smaller segment of the population?

This ignores things like long covid, other complications, ease of spread, not to mention filled hospital beds and all of the fallout that can cause - no care for other emergencies, etc. And, of course, disruption to life in general.
The opposite of life is not death. And covid is negatively impacting life as we know it. All of us.

im not surprised some countries are run by people who want the population to accept these death and long term injury rates in the interest of keeping their economies going

i'm definitely curious who's going to be shutting down this winter when the newest variant hits. i'm hopeful it's chicago. traffic's getting entirely out of control. yesterday, it took me a full hour to make what used to be a 15 minute drive on surface streets....

I don't think that those in charge are convinced that covid will be eradicated any time soon

i'm not in charge, and i don't believe it will eradicated. i'm hopeful one more year will do it, but the reality checking part of me says that too many stubborn people will keep this going foreevarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

it's like cockroaches. we had a chance to get rid of that crap when the boats started coming over with a half-hearted attempt. now they're everywhere, and just migrate between buildings while each individual building is getting fumigated at different times...

It will be a scandal unfolding for years in the UK, imo

Interesting how other parts of the world are seeing this, our vaccine rate (72% are vaccinated) or 92% adult population and the US is not far off our vaccination level . but we are tiny, you can fit the UK in the state of Nevada and have room!!

ONS data for UK
https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulat...latestinsights

ONS data set spreadsheet for UK (click on covid19 weekly registrations deaths tab)
https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulat...nglandandwales

Obviously our infections are in the high 20-30k, but deaths are low-ish due to the very high vaccine uptake since Feb. We are starting to learn to live with some deaths, or should I say the UK population are becoming accepting of some Covid deaths and government can see this. Likewise we have on avg 600 deaths per day from hearth disease (heart foundation UK data) which we don't think about daily.

We shall see what happens when respiratory illnesses kick in over winter.

Numbers for this week here. Notice they heard enough complaints about it they decided to break out the "partially vaccinated" numbers on the pictogram. One note is that our area has a relatively low "partially vaccinated" rate. Most persons that get the first shot get the second so most of the ones on here seem to be those that were "between shots" and got sick or were exposed before their first shot but didn't know it.

On some good news, the system had been in the process of setting up a 40 bed tent in our parking garage because of the spike in cases. They put that on hold this morning because the number of positive results has fallen over the last 10 days.
