Kinda related, would there be a shop similar to Spencer Fab but more so for the transmission? I'm getting really tired of the synchro grind which Toyota refuses to address, and I don't know when I'll be able to get a hold of a 2017 transmission.

Spencer does have a trans swap available

I had seen that they had an option for a T5 swap, but I was looking more along the lines of a 6-speed reinforcement replacement like they have with the stock 4.1 FD diff. I like the AZ6 in our cars, I just wish I had gotten one of the beefier ones. I'll probably get a 4th to 5th gear synchro grind once a week which is pretty upsetting.

Guess I'll just keep an eye out for the reinforced 2017 transmissions.

I'm rocking a 4.88 in an IS300 diff for NA Highly recommend it. 4.56 might be a little better suited for track (depending on track layout), but the 4.88 is a blast on the street.

Would doing this swap mess with your speedo reading like if you were to swap to bigger wheels and tires?

I don't believe so, just flipped through the block diagrams and the only speed sensors are at the wheels so changing F/D won't mess up your speedo.

I have wondered about this. I was datalogging first gear after upgraded my wheels 225/45 and while I am getting better traction it goes threw first so fast that my turbo never breaks 6.5psi. Once I shift to 2nd it goes to 10.5psi. Basically there just isn't enough resistance in first to reach full boost. My car makes 12h.p. per psi, so I could gain 30 to 40hp in first with 3.91s.

Final drive change does not effect the speedo. The speedo reads off wheel speed sensors. If you use the dash gear indicator it can be off but a tune can be programmed to compensate for this.

so changing it (from stock to 4.88) would put the engine at 7500 (redline) but be traveling less than 60mph (or whatever the top of stock 2nd MT is)? thus quicker acceleration? OR does it go the opposite direction turning lower rpms in 2nd going 60 mph.

So in a NA car going numerically higher then stock (4.10) will result in quicker acceleration. Centrifugal SC can also benefit in this change since these SC need RPM.

In the example of this thread the car is turbocharged. In this case going lower then stock gives more time in gear, this is advantageous for a turbo as that means more time to build boost and stay on boost and there for you go faster.

If you go numerically higher on a turbo car you will still accell quick but your really selling yourself sort by not letting the turbo do its job. You'll blow right through that rpm range where the turbo is happiest.

There are plenty of RPM/MPH calculators out there online. Enter your trans ratios, tire size, and final drive ratio.

Does the BRZ use a 8" ring gear as well? I read somewhere once of being able to use the 8" gear sets for a Toyota pick-up in the IS300 housing. If the pinion shaft was the same length and spline for the BRZ flange then it could be some cheap gear swaps.
