No wood pellet option? (smoker/BBQs)
I have a traeger wood pellet grille. Love the thing.

By far the best option IMO.

Thats my number 1 choice, followed by Charcoal.

Hm... don't have much issue w either one. Have made bbq both way. Whichever work for what I'm doing. If I want some smoke to it, I'll do charcoal w apple wood chip or other chip. If I got a lot of friends/family I need to feed some burgers and hot dogs, I'll go w gas. Ribs... I have done both, but I like to use crock pot to prep it first.

Then we have to define BBQ vs grilling.

Anyone else who would vote gas is too busy being manly with the time they saved not using charcoal

And in my experience, only one cooking method can do both at the same time on the same grill: charcoal.

The lowest temp I can get on average with my gas Genesis running on two of four burners on indirect heat is around 300°, too high for bbq using flavoring woods for smoke, but easily done on a charcoal Performer throttled with the dome vent. I often do both to the same meat on the Performer, grill sear directly over the hot 800° coals then move to indirect heat to smoke finish at 250°. Best of both worlds with a temp range I haven't been able to duplicate with a gas grill.

Traeger is hugely popular here. I seriously considered joining the Church of Traeger but went with the BGE Cult instead.

I voted charcoal because I think playing with fi..I mean pouring too much lighter fluid and creating a giant...I mean pouring charcoal and lighting it like a responsible adult is fun. Mesquite charcoal though, not those odorless briquets, you might as well just use gas if it doesn't give off smokey scent.

That said, I would prefer a gas igniter, it's just a lot easier.

Craigslist can help, good deals right now. The Performer and BGE are basically maintenance free, not sure how durable Traegers are.

Ive had my Traeger for several years without any real issue....except for the temperature setting and the actual thermometer on the grill lid doesnt match anymore.....thermometer temp reads a fair bit higher than the setting temp. Ive pretty much only just set the temp at either 350 or max (450) and then just rely on the thermometer to tell me how hot it is. I am inclined to believe the thermometer is the accurate reading as its an analog style readout.
I Think Traeger is a german brand so i must be experiencing the german electronic glitchiness lol.

Traeger was based here in Oregon, not far from where I live. I believe they sold out a few years back and are now manufactured overseas.

I am a Weber fanboy, but I also have to shout out my Tulsa roots, lol. Hasty Bake for smoking, grilling, baking is worth checking out. I have a Weber and a Hasty Bake and that covers almost everything.
