I don't see why people think a BMW will get you laid...

Most women don't care what car you drive as long as you look good. By the time you're getting a woman in the car, I'm pretty sure the deal's been sealed. xD

I personally would sell the BMW soon though. I've never trusted aging Beamers but maybe that's just me. You should try test driving the BRZ since it's slightly different that the FR-S. Also you can get the creature comforts that are comparable to the BMW.

I can understand the reasoning behind what you want to do. BMW's are very expensive to fix once the warranty expires.. Although slower.. I would consider it. Yes the FR-S is a more "practical" car, better on gas.. lower cost of ownership. Its the luxury amenities that you might miss. The great thing with Scion though is that you can make upgrades which will cost no where near what a major repair would cost on your BMW. You could get aftermarket leather seats, brushed aluminium/carbon Fiber interior bits, spoiler, fog lights and I think you would have a car that might make you not miss the 335 so much. I know its not the best comparison.. but believe me.. you won't miss the BMW once you hit 90K miles in the Scion and all is well.. lol .

That's the only thing I have in the back of my mind with the BRZ, long term reliability. It was a leap of faith on my part to buy the brand new platform but I made the choice based on toyota/subaru have decent reliability record. I hope it is the same as my previous honda accord which was a first year first round production new model. All it needed was oil changes and wear/tear parts. The only recall was for the windshield wiper motor.

GL with whatever you choose :happy0180:

... really loving the "if you're a guy who likes guys, buy this car" vibe there. Yeah, never seen that ruin a good car's image before.

Come on, jeez, it's 2012. Who gives a shit, drive a pink mini and get perms, if you like girls you like girls, if you like boys you like boys. Image? Image is for wankers, drive what you want, how you want, where you want.

.. that said, damn, I wish a 335i (yes, even a 2007) was 86 money here.

I've made that leap several times with no regrets...'03 SRT-4, '05 X-Runner, '07 FJ Cruiser and now a '13 FS-R...only issue I had with any of them was a bad tranny on the X-Runner...3rd gear would routinely grind...after a few visits to the dealership they replaced it and all was good!

I personally never really liked the N54 engine in that car. Way to many problems with the fuel system. Something to consider if your keeping the car. Though I believe they updated the warranty regarding that. I'm not sure though since I left the BMW dealer by the time the recall started picking up.

The interior of the FR-S is simpler than the BMW and you'll have less luxurious things in there. Manual seats, simple instrument cluster, plastic trims, etc. You'll also have less power. But if you don't mind those things then I don't see you having any problems in regards to owning an FR-S. I traded in my Evo for mine and I don't regret it. It's a fun little car to drive and still gets some good gas mileage.

It would also probably help to try to drive a stick as well.

Can pick up a 335 with <30k miles for around £14k here - around £17K can get you one with 14000 on the clock - which is why im having a hard time thinking about dropping £26k on a GT86 (once paint and speakers are added... more with the Nur spec bodykit i want)

I'm likely to wait till the 86 gets some FI

$50k for a 90,000km 335i here. $39k for a brand new 86 with all the fruit.

I never understood why German car drivers worry about the maintenance of their cars? I would never buy European cars unless I was bankrolling around 200k+ a year because I wouldn't give a shit about maintenance. I think its this "baller" mentality that American society has on people that forces them to make stupid buying decisions. I'm not saying you can't afford the maintenance on your car but this isn't first time I've seen a thread like this. This is like the 100th thread I've seen. I love Euro cars though but I would rather stick with Asian sports cars.

I've had a '09 e90 M3 in the recent past... And I don't think I'll ever go back to a 'luxury-sports car'. Too much depreciation to deal with, and too much luxury to worry about.

My heart desires simplicity, lightweight, and a clear connection with the car & driver... And so the FR-S is where it's at for me!

Pull the trigger on the FR-S if you feel the same way, OP!

Warranty expiring is just an excuse to mod it. A LSD and JB4, some nice rims and the 335i will go a long way. I would pick up a FRS as a second track car but not trade in the Bimmer

It's funny that many of you mention dropping down in luxury, class, blah, blah. I just don't buy cars as a status symbol. I buy cars because I like them. I've gone from really nice luxury cars to cheap econo cars. I've gone from fast cars to slow cars. Buy whatever makes you happy. Yes, there will be people that won't understand. Who cares what they think? I remember when I sold my mint e36 M3 back in 2006 and got a Forester XT. All my bimmer friends (yes it's bimmer, stop saying beamer) thought I was nuts. But once I dialed in the Forester just how I wanted it, I was even more content in that.

I'm not worrying about anything at all selling my 335d and getting a BRZ except MAYBE fuel mileage. I really love that I can average 30MPG in the diesel BMW during my commute. I'm hoping to get somewhere near that in the BRZ. Can I afford not to? Sure. But I just like the feeling of getting decent mileage.

Every car has its tradeoffs. In your 335i you have some "class", plenty of power, and decent handling. But you don't have a limited slip diff and buying one for that car is ridiculously overpriced. Notice I said "decent handling"...modern BMWs are just plain too heavy to be really fun in super tight stuff. Plus you have more expensive tires to replace, more often. Brakes that need changing more often. And generally, more shit to worry about breaking. All BMWs have cooling system disasters around 100k miles. ALL. The turbos and fuel system have issues in that car. Window regulators, o2 sensors, suspension bushings, the list goes on.

BMWs are great cars, don't get me wrong. I've had 4 of them and there's a dozen in my family. They aren't hard to work on and the parts aren't really that expensive, despite what people seem to think. Labor is costly if you don't do the work yourself, and more things will definitely break/wear out than on a japanese compact.
