Cool to see it looks like it is going ahead. Definitely looks like a reworked version of the current car - which is a good thing if it keeps the light weight, analogue feeling formula.

If you're waiting for a rolled over vehicle, look for something with a higher COG, for example a GTI.

Swap what? Engine is not that an advancement (10-15 PS?) and all other things are there already.

Interesting what Matt said about "safety tech" being added. I'm not familiar with the Subaru systems, but the Toyota/Lexus active "safety" systems I've experience in several cars I've owned, have created more danger then they have alleviated. A 2.5" front coilover/leveling lift on my Tundra was purported, by Toyota, to change the performance of the active safety system. Seems like I heard about some issues with the Supra traction system not playing nice with aftermarket coilovers (issues with work around ride height sensor components, IIRC). I am much happier with my '20, than I was with 13 '13, with the suspension/tires/wheels/tune/header I've done. I've been looking forward to the GR86 release. If the car remains easy to mod, I may be a buyer. I wonder what the chances are my new header would bolt up to the 2.4L?

I wonder how many current gen owners are going to buy this new gen, if the NA rumors are true I can't see a lot of people trading in. Guess we shall seeeeeee.

Looks like I'll keep my eye on the 400Z - or maybe just buy a bronco and keep the 86.

I'm refering to the fact that *if* 2nd gen is so close to first gen then there is a chance parts developed for 2nd gen be it oem or aftermarket may benefit first gen owners.

If parts have the same overall design that gives the aftermarket a head start on development. Hopefully that translates into companies like ohlins and rce will using their current great products to develop and fine tune them further instead of starting over. More parts, competition and variety is always a good thing for consumers.

A couple of things:

1. I like how they went back to the smaller mouth. It means even Toyota and Subaru feels the current 86 mouth is ugly AF

2. The front looks good and side profile is similar to first gen! But the rear looks generic and seems like an afterthought

Gen 1 ftw

As much as I would like more torque, I can’t spend all that money when my 16 is paid off. The difference is not worth it. That money will be saved for a 981 Cayman S or something else in a few years.

Fingers crossed they don't add a ugly spoiler like they did on the BRZ version of the 86

I would prefer a larger displacement na motor over a turbo or supercharged setup. Flashy specs and racy emblems usually mean expensive repairs once the warranty runs out. As a matter of fact I wish the seemingly taller hood was hiding a inline Toyota

that would be nice, but no real inlines right now that Toyota makes that have the same concept, high revving N/A. At least not that I can think of.
