Coilover setup and broken bolt

I purchased some used, low mileage Teins from a local for a steal of a price.

It's actually my first set of coilovers that I'd ever installed. Lucky me for reading my torque wrench incorrectly and doubling the recommended torque.

So having snapped the top hat bolt... i went searching for an answer. How can I replace it? I ordered a replacement from Tein while I looked for another solution. Someone suggested I knock out a bolt from the oem struts and throw that in. Perfect. A little short but it works just fine.

Finding settings for these was a fun adventure but here they are from the Tein manual all in one place.

GCS 4th Brake Light Wiring

A LOT of people ask about this on the FB forums where people don't seem to want to research or break out a multimeter so....

Green = Reverse
Blue = Brake
Brown = Nifty running light

Why I hate TPMS and how to skip it completely

My 2008 Civic had TPMS and I broke two sensors just driving the car normally. (over 12 years and 275k miles)

Unfortunately, Honda (at the time) wanted $300 per sensor for install and programming. After getting a better idea of how tpms worked, i decided to try something new for the 86 to avoid that.

Enter the Autel system with programmable 1MX sensors.

Using the TS408 with programmable sensors means scanning your stock wheels for sensor IDs and the ability to copy those IDs to new sensors. Throw the new sensors in your new wheels ($50 at my local shop for all 4) and voila, swap wheels without ever needing anything to be programmed.

The programmer is $150 and a set of programmable sensors are $120 for a set of 4 but not needing to visit a shop to program new IDs is priceless to me. Originally I thought I'd use the Carista to do this but the need to "subscribe" twice a year to use it seemed silly.

Hope that helps someone.

Plug and play side marker turn signal harnesses

I purchased the Intec side markers and wanted to hook them up without hacking the stock wiring to crap. Maybe I'm getting old. So I found a way to make some plug and play harnesses that do a great job.

The plug and play headlight connector numbers are 90980-10897 and 90980-10896. These will allow you to make a harness to tap the turn signal wiring without cutting into the stock harness.

Driver side signal:

Passenger side signal:

Wire up your harness.

Add the quick release plug portion from intec.

And there you go. hopefully this wiring info helps you.

Love the plug and play harness for the turn signal. Too many people just cut into the wiring instead of building a nice harness!

It'll be slow but I do like the car and figure more pictures and angles for mod installs can never hurt lol

One of my worst fears for sure. Making sure things can stay reversible is a feature.

OK I'm gonna ask a potentially dumb question here... is that P&P harness for the back of the headlight connector or somewhere under the dash?

I'm interested in installing turn signal convex mirror replacements which I would need to tap into my wiring somehow and I really like the idea of it being totally reversible.

Those are the headlight 8 pin connectors so they're under the hood. Easy spot to grab the signal positive and ground for pretty much anywhere you want to move it.

EDIT: I thought I took a pic of doing some continuity testing when I made the harnesses. Sure enough.

Vland headlights. Because $20 for a bulb is better than $1k for a headlight assembly.

Obviously my headlight wiring looks little more busy thanks to the side marker hookups but if you're looking to wire the DRLs to always on, this is the way.

leveler white wire -> headlight white/yellow
harness white wire -> headlight yellow
harness yellow wire -> nothing

Out of the box, my vlands were had the boomerang and the turn signals wired backwards but this configuration above will give you DRL boomerangs and working turn signals. I'm still surprised I couldn't find a simple picture of this wireup anywhere.

Having a hood with a hole in it has been a really good time... for water to get into my engine bay. It doesn't worry me at all about the electronics because those connectors have water proof plugs built into them but the pulleys? They're getting rusty and throwing rust dust everywhere in line with the belt lol. Solution? The grimmspeed tool tray didnt' cover as much of the area as I had hoped so I grabbed some password JDM carbon fiber covers. It rained 2 hours after I installed them so I got to go outside and see how they did immediately.

Pros: They look good, they cover the alternator and A/C compressor completely protecting their pulleys, it covers the oil filter completely keeping water out of the drip lip, the quality of the carbon is 7/10. (It's like someone had a mold for the part and didn't clean it before using it so there are quite a few small divots in the part that need to be lightly sanded and the whole part needs to be 2k cleared but that's a project for another day.)

Cons: doesn't cover the center area over the intake tube which still allows water to get all over the idler and crank pulley, compressor cover goes really low which pushes the MAF wiring really low also (I zip tied the wiring to a point further back for now but plan to cut a small notch in the cover to move the plastic maf wiring stay to the cover)

I guess I need to fab up something for the middle area to redirect water more forward in the bay.

Here's a shot of the MAF wiring and where I need to notch the cover.
