New owner of a 86

Morning and Happy New Years ladies and gentlemen! Just bought a 86 two days ago, been loving the car. However, I do have some questions (and I do apologize if they've been asked before). I've been looking for some TRD parts for the 86, but the only ones available are the dealer parts, so I was wondering if the TRD intake for the 86 is the same as the one for a 2013 FRS? All the TRD parts I'm finding are stated they're for the FRS, so I'm confused about if they're applicable to my car or not.

Should be compatible. If you build a car on the website, you can add the TRD accessories.

Confirmed with a phone call. The old TRD intake does indeed still fit and carries the same part number!

Please disregard. The following (except the filter part).
The pre 2017 TRD intake is NOT compatible. They did some signifigent changes to the intake and tube. There is really no advantage in the TRD intake unless you are just looking for cosmetic upgrades. Buy a drop in high flow filter (again the pre 2017 will NOT work) and you are good to go.

Thanks! I did that but it doesn't give the part number, so I don't know if I'm selecting the correct part when I'm trying to buy them off amazon or ebay. What you're saying is if the intake is listed as 2013+ FRS, it'll fit on the 86?

Woo! Thank you buddy, you just saved me around $450. Any word on when the TRD intake is coming out? I actually do want it more for cosmetic reasons, as the exhaust and engine already sound pretty solid as stock.

I am going to back pedal a bit here! The tube bend radius was changed but I am not sure that the diameter did. The old TRD one may very well still fit. If just going for cosmetics though there are less expensive options (unless want all TRD parts but that will cost you).

I would think the 2017 intake is out. Ask the dealer for the part number.

Well now, 86Drew, CONGRATULATIONS on your purchase and WELCOME to ..... The Forum .......

So, like ol @Tcoat suggests, just put in a free-er flowing air filter (like a K&N) and save yourself some money (there ain't nutten wrong with the air box that came with the car).

Now, if you want a TRD cosmetic look, I suggest you just get and apply the sticker. 87% of the people that see under your car's hood won't know the difference ......

As Tcoat and humfrz suggested just get a drop in filter...Apexi, K & N or any other brand will do well. Take a look at some of the sponsors for this forum like Ft86speed.com, 86speed.com, etc. Welcome to the club!

All these answers yet no one has stated whether this car is a manual or automatic ?

Certainly the 2017 manual has as new intake, 2017 automatic would (most likely) have the old intake.

honestly at this point for the 2017 you need to contact the manufacturer of any aftermarket item you want to buy and ask them. Some stuff fits, but a bunch doesn't because of changes. Eventually we will know everything but at this point we just do not have all the info.

In Canada we don't have the air intake, air filter nor the 17 inch TRD wheels and also missing the quick shifter. (They are coming just not available yet AFAIK)

Congrats on your new 86! I can tell you (at least here in the States/Hawaii) you can get these TRD parts available (like already mentioned by some): Cat-Back Stainless Steel Dual Exhaust, Performance Intake (Automatic transmission Only), Front/Rear Brake Pads, 17"/18" wheels, Drop-in Filter, Front/Rear Anti Roll Bars, Lowering Springs, and the Quick Shifter (Manual Transmission)

For me, I put in the exhaust, intake (a lot of people argue against this, but the air box, high flow filter, and feed tube are significantly larger), 18" wheels come with Toyo Sport Tires and staggered fit for better rear wheel grip, anti roll bars to further enhance handling performance, and the brake pads.

You may want to think about other performance mods such as FI and E85 if you're planning to go that far, but honestly, as a FUN DD, keep it N/A and just work on getting it properly tuned that way too.

I can't speak for any Dyno numbers, but for sure exhaust, intake/drop-in, wheel and tire upgrade, and a tune would be a good to satisfy a lot of people that arent looking for ridiculously high numbers.

Other than that, enjoy the ride!
