Quick update. Insurance processed the claim yesterday.
The base value they gave on the car was $13,985. Totaled out to $15,254.

I still owed $9,000. So I am surprised with the equity. (is that the right word?)

2013 10 Series Manual Number 223; 58,208 Miles on the odometer.

And she didn't give me the option of buying the shell back

I would ask her specifically. It's usually pretty inexpensive. (They don't want to part out your car believe me it's more work than it's worth for them)

I'm mostly surprised by the idiotically high value they gave it. That's a 10k car normally.

I am surprised that they paid out at all with that story
Car was stolen, crashed, brought back, parked nicely in driveway, key was on the table the whole time. I can just picture the insurance adjusters face as that tale unwound.

Well Oxnard PD did catch 3 guys in connection with a string of car robberies a week after. But I don’t think they were the same guys. They were boosting Hondas supposedly.

Coverage is coverage.
You can drive your car into a brick wall and make a claim.
Or get into a traffic accident. Same thing.
