"vent" setting very warm to hot

With my A/C off but the setting to "Cold" on the dial, the vent blows very warm. On "1" it's downright hot and on "4" it's very warm.

With the fan set to 0/off, the air blowing through from driving at highway speeds makes it very hot as well.

Basically, with the windows up I have to use the A/C or be cooked out of the car even though it's 70 degrees outside. With the windows down, it feels like you have an exhaust leak into the car.

What's everyone's else's experience? It seems broken to me, so I'm going to take it in for service.

My car also got a really bad knock today, but it went away. Very concerning.

I've noticed that its a bit warm too. Have tried changing the vent from recirculation to outside air?

I saw our member PekingDuck posted the same thing about warm vent so you are not the only one....being this is the very first production run/model, I anticipate issues but hopefully none major.

I have it set to outside air. I also turned the warm/cold dial several times hoping it would "unstick" something.

I'm thinking this is contributing to the fact that my A/C is terrible and can't keep up with an 87 degree sunny day.

I concur

It has not been warm around here but I've noticed that even when I have the dial at half way between coldest and neutral, the air is pretty warm. I haven't even bothered putting it into the heat section. Winter weather driving will perhaps be toasty.

Woo hoo! First model year problems. You can at least say that you're the first FRS/BRZ to be serviced, lol.

In all seriousness that sucks. There usually is an air door actuator that opens and closes a flap in your heater box to direct air flow. It could be that the flap isn't closing fully and you're getting warm air flow still. Ford owners can tell you its a common problem especially amongst trucks. Keep us posted!

I took too long to respond so my response was redundant...

If you press the recirc button does the air stop coming in?

It's weird that the A/C works, usually theres a motor or mechanism that will close off the vents or re route the vents in cases like this.

Has it been really hot where you live?

Either way, take it in just to to safe.

Are you still on your first tank of gas? I wouldn't be surprised if the dealer put regular gas in it.

If this is the only major problem, then I'll be happy. This is such a minor issue that I wouldn't even worry to much about buying the car. It's not going to stop me buying.

Maybe they have to issue a TSB or something to fix the problem. But I'm sure that it will get fixed if it does become a common issue.

It's not as bad as the first year Ford Fiesta's and their auto transmissions. A huge ton of people have problems with the Autos. They always complain about terrible shifts and the car jerking when changing gears. Or even the new Mustang. The cheap manual trannys in the new Mustang actually have been known to strip the teeth right off the gears.

Again, if this is the only issue we see from the FR-S/BRZ, I'll be happy and not really that concerned.

The dealer put in 93 octane, and this is my third tank of gas (I refill on 1/4 tank)

Not really. It was 87 the other day, 70-ish today.

Wow, that should not be happening then...

I wonder if a factory reflash is in the works?

I have some other Toyotas that do the same thing, blow warm air on vent with heat all off. I think it has to do with where the vent air is aquired from outside. With set a recirc it will definitely get hot and steamy as you are just recirculating cabin air!

Well at least I could ride around with the windows down. Right now it gets uncomfortable feeling like the heater is blowing on you.
