Gear indicator

From press photos, I noticed there is a Gear indicator to show what gear is currently engaged.

In my test drive last week with the Whiteout 6MT, I noticed there was no gear displayed while driving. My press kit from Scion Canada indicates "shift position display with upshift indicator".

Can this feature be turned off? I like it, just curious why it wasn't displayed.
Canada thing?

What are your experiences while test driving the the Scion demo car?

i think its only on the auto?

Gear shift indicator is a red light that comes up when your revs are high and shifting is recommended

The Gear Indicator is to show what gear # you are in: 1,2,3,4,5,6.

Not just on the auto, supposed to be on the manual also as per pic below:
(photo from this thread: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2085)

Clearly this is a manual car, and you can see indicated gear (3) and the speed (46).

The shift light is a different thing.

Per Scion Canada "shift position display (i.e. gear indicator) with upshift indicator (shift light and audible alert)"

Apparently you can turn it off/on by holding the setting button - I saw a reference in the manual, but didn't actually note how (so it was off on both testers I drove)

Cool, was unsure if it was deleted for some reason in Canada. But if it can be turned off, that would explain it.

Per this brochure, it indicates the "shift position indicator" is a automatic only feature.

Can any First 86 members confirm as you now have received your cars?

I test drove the Manual version and I don't recall seeing a gear indicator... (Maybe I did not notice it). I find it rather irrelevant to be honest. The info screen is rather small.

Couldn't take it any longer, pulled out the manual.

Page 143: (Manual transmission section) "The indicator's default setting is off. The indicator can be turned on/off (->P. 153)

Page 153: Press the ODO/TRIP switch repeatedly until the setting screen is displayed.

Each time the switch is pressed and held, the display changes between on/off. "G-On" Display on "G-Off" Display off.

The key has to be in the ACC or OFF position for this to work by the way. (Page 152)
