Grinding noise ?

Hey all,

While i'm driving I can hear almost an inconsistent grinding. I jacked up the front and spun the driver side wheel and recorded a clip.

https://drive.google.com/file/d/14Vh...G8Urm00du/view
(You can hear it better with headphones)

Is this normal ? Bad brake pads ? Warped rotor ? Wheel bearing ?

Subscribed, I have a similar sound. Have not yet taken the brakes apart to inspect.

I had this problem on my WRX when stones get wedged between the rotor and brake dust shield. Just need to bend it back so there's clearance.

Normal. Look elsewhere.

Normal brake noise.

If it really bothers you take off wheel, take off brake pads and use brake cleaner. . Re lube the guide pins on the calipers.

If all else fails burn car, don't bother trying to fix it. Buy a brand new Honda Civic SI, spend a few more bucks on the lifetime service maintenance.
You'll never have to fuck with the brakes ever again

Sounds like dirt, mud, or a stone in the brake shield as has been said here. Try pressure washing to knock it out. Could also be a small gremlin hiding in the caliper who breathes funny.

(This thread was the closest I could find to the grinding sound I describe below, any other thoughts as to what could be the issue are appreciated. Thanks.)

I have ~12500 miles on my 2017 BRZ Premium, purchased new 30 month ago. I do mostly suburban driving, few/infrequent highway miles. I'm not particularly hard on the car (e.g. it's never been tracked), but I do "drive it."
Long story short, this afternoon I noticed a new "sound". I've read all the stories of rattles & creaks but this car until today has been totally solid.
This (new as of today) sounds like a "grinding" or rattling noise. It's not the engine or transmission, and I can only hear it loudly when rolling to or from a stop, even in neutral, both with or w/o applying brakes, and at 15MPH<.
It's not coming from the body or the interior - at first I thought maybe I picked something up, a tree branch or twig caught someplace in the wheel area or chassis, but I looked underneath and don't see anything unusual. The rotors and calipers appear free of debris.
The noise appears to be coming form the left rear wheel area. Have a routine service coincidentally scheduled for tomorrow, but already dreading the "the tech checked and didn't hear anything" answer from the dealer/service manager.

Can you get a recording of it? If heard when slow, maybe have someone film you coasting. Just throwing out ideas.

It may be a wheel bearing going bad.

Just got a call back from the local dealer...

Good News: "We pulled a piece of metal wire out from under your chassis that was rubbing against the wheel." Problem (hopefully) solved.

Bad News: $120 (!) for an oil/oil filter change and tire rotation - my first paid after the original 2 year complimentary service, not having had an out of pocket DEALER oil change in YEARS shocked by the cost <old guy shakes fist at inflation>.

Sounds normal to me. I get this sort of thing as I don't drive my car much, surface rust on the face of the disks rubbing against the pads.

(Copied Geex's video to YouTube for easier viewing)

I finally took my caliper off and inspected my noisy brake which was the passenger front. The pads looked totally healthy at 45k. When the rotor spun past the pads at a certain spot, they made this noise. Visually everything looked fine, but with my hand I could feed that the spot on the rotor which was causing the noise had a different texture to it than the rest of the rotor face. It was almost a rough spot...pad deposit I'm assuming?

So I'm guessing rotor replacement (or resurfacing) is the solution.
