PCA HPDE at Hastings, 30 May - 1 June 2014

If anyone is interested, there is an "advanced" DE (no instructors planned) going on during the Porsche Club race at Motorsport Park Hastings this weekend. $145 for a single day, should get you about five 20min run sessions on the track. Hastings is a very nice and safe track. I enjoy MAM, but MPH has a great flow to it. I'll be there Saturday (grey BRZ) with a friend who has a silver WRX.

Despite the parentheses, I'm still not sure what DE means/stands for.

I'd really like to get my BRZ out on MAM. Bought an approved helmet and am trying to register for their next Fast Friday where they have an orientation class (June 6th, though I can't seem to get the instructor to return my emails and confirm).

The way this reads, anyone can run at Hastings? I would really like to get on the track with the car soon and just learn it a little better. I'm a confident and competent driver and would be comfortable going on a track without orientation, but am also patient if that's required. If this is an opportunity to get on the track sooner, I will be there.

Upon further inspection it appears DE stands for Drivers Education, so this would be an orientation event :-)

Yup, DE = driver's education. Bad news though, for the Porsche Club it's an "advanced" DE, which means they aren't planning to have novices. Meaning, if this will be your first time on a road course I don't think they'd let you sign up. To drive with them without an instructor you will have need to be cleared to "solo" on the track after specific instruction regarding safety, ettiquette, procedures and basic driving technique (e.g, the Full Throttle Orientation class at MAM you mentioned).

It'd be great to see you there, but this DE isn't novice friendly, unfortunately . You can always talk to the Great Plains PCA (Tom Cooper is the president, I think) and see what they say. Maybe they can get you an instructor for Fri?

Thank you for this info. June 6th isn't too far, so I will just try out MAM first.

No worries, sorry to be a party pooper. Get out there at MAM as soon as you can Watch out, it's addicting.

If you haven't thought about it, consider buying Harry's Lap timer (apple or android app), a suction cup mount ,and a long cord for your phone. And get a bluetooth OBDII reader (I think mine is an ELM) to connect to it. Presto! Track video overlayed with data. It's great, and could help you see what you do to learn.

Hello all again. My family and I finally made it to Omaha. We've been here about a week now and just found a home. I'm heading to Philly for a couple of weeks but will be back mid-Aug. We move into our new home in the beginning of Sept but would like to meet up sometime. I was hoping to go to Nationals (to watch); however, no time to do so. I'm avail during this week sometime. We are currently staying in downtown Omaha until the end of the week. I'm excited to be here and hope to meet you all.

Brandon is a great guy! Know him personally and he does a great job with tint. I wish I knew him before I got my tint but I am still happy with my tint.
