What I used to do when I wrenched at the motorcycle shop was:

Degrease very very well.
Spray with the aerosol canned baby powder.
Run Engine.

This worked about 70% of the time. The spray on powder would turn brown and you could identify the leak.

A black light is good for finding oil leaks too.
