Had a nice uneventful drive to Cali yesterday. Left early enough I got thru the desert before it got too hot. Hit 90° at Reno, and 100° for a couple minutes in Vacaville, then once I got to Benicia it dropped to 70°. 74° in San Jose yesterday. Wife says it was 103° in Caldwell yesterday, and not a single leaf moving.

My mom is currently doing Swedish Death Cleaning. She is trying to give all her stuff away thinking she is going to die tomorrow. I'll probably be here all week helping her out, and trying to lift her spirits.

My mom wants to got to Red lobster tonight, so lobster it is. First shopping this morning. That should be fun.

Just got an email from one of the lawyers. He'll let me know if it goes to trial, which is scheduled for November. Great...

So um, I was doing my daily tracking for a new GPU thing online, and noticed that instead the Xbox Series X came on stock online. So I decided, for the lolz, to see if I could snag one. I went in expecting to reach the checkout page and be told it had been sold out.

I have an Xbox Series X now.......

Absolutely not. I'm selling it to one of my friends since he was looking for one. I was just very surprised I got a hot item without actually trying.

Pretty much. Talked to the my immediate supervisor about the state of things and let him know I would be bailing if they weren't addressed. There us a severance agreement they want me to sign to make it seem like a mutual split to protect the company and prevent unemployment... not that I'd ever file for it. Waiting to see if there are any issues getting my last paycheck before deciding to sign.

46C (115F) on my drive home yesterday. All time Canada temperature record set in Lytton, BC at 47.9C yesterday... will possibly break it again today.

Today was a much more manageable at around 35-38... still hot but not nearly as stifling. Should be back under 30 by end of the week.

And thankfully common sense prevailed and they implemented a campfire ban before the Canada day long weekend.

Yesterday during a short drive in the foothills, elevation about 1,000':

Today was "only" 97ºF tying the record but the humidity tripled to 35% so it felt pretty close to yesterday. The big difference was no wind today vs. 15 mph yesterday that felt like a hair dryer in your face. I hadn't felt that effect since a visit to Death Valley a few years ago when it was 124º with no wind.

Every day lately I say thank you to Willis Carrier.

Cut my hair short again. No more men bun anymore. All my coworkers surprised to see my hair short again. They asked me why I cut it off, my answer is “cost”. How fast I go through shampoo, conditioner & other hair products were getting ridiculous (x6 more). So I just cut em off short. Maybe down the road I might grow again, but not right now.

Don't worry about it - it most likely won't go to trial -

Decades ago I used to have a pony tail down to the small of my back. I transitioned through a couple of steps to being clippered with no guard. At the time I was paying $20 at the barbers. When the price went up to $25 I thought that's enough and bought my own clippers for $20. They only had to last 2 uses and I would be in front. I'm guessing those clippers lasted for 5 years. Unsurprisingly one can't buy clippers for $20 any more but even so cutting my own hair is much cheaper than paying someone else to do it.

Washing my hair? Approx 18 seconds. Drying my hair? About 3 seconds.
