Clutch feels soft? Easier?
I went out for a little bit of a spirited drive the other day and since then my clutch has felt different to say the least. The clutch feels softer when engaging yet slightly easier to get into gear. Aside from the clutch, the car feels a little different, almost like it's lacking just a little bit of the power. Time for a new clutch? Some other mechanical problem? Or something that just happens? I have really no idea, I'm not the most mechanically inclined car person.

Well, don't know what to tell you.
Does it smell of burnt clutch? You know a foul odor and/or smoke coming from the engine bay. If your clutch was going out it would be harder to get into gear. Maybe you got some shitty gas, dirty air filter, loss some air in your tires,?? Maybe your butt dyno needs recalibration.

Questions: * do you have any power mods? * how many miles on your car? * is the clutch the original OEM clutch? * what is the last thing you did (mechanically) to your car? * did you buy the car new? * has anyone ever adjusted the clutch? I would suggest that you first check the clutch fluid reservoir level and top it off if necessary. The next thing I would suggest is that you have the hydraulic clutch system bled (their might be air in the system). Come back after you have checked out those things ...... humfrz |

Well thank you guys so much!!
I have no power mods whatsoever (yet...) The car has about 43k on it, original clutch I presume, and I am the second owner of this vehicle. Little annoying since I do not know the habits of the previous owner of course. I haven't had the clutch adjusted at all. From my little bit of research yes, I did find that those could be some options in resolving this problem, or as I had just gotten off the phone with a friend, maybe the clutch has reached a new level of wear that has become noticeable. I'll definitely try topping it off first followed by bleeding it to see if that can fix the problem. Thanks! |

The clutch on the 86 is softer than a lot of other vehicles. For example the clutch on the WRX feels like a brick comparing to the 86. I guess it all depends on what vehicle you are used to. I think it also has to do with the clutch spring that is installed in our vehicles.
