I regularly travel up to 400 miles a day for work purposes. It's the main reason why my car projects progress so slowly.

You get used to it. The 15 to 20 hours of actual physical work time that I put in per week makes up for it. And being a salaried worker with a company vehicle and fuel being paid for by the company makes this one of the best jobs I've ever had.

Sister and husband had a flat in Milan several years ago and a nice English speaking man on a scooter rode up to their rescue. While getting the jack and the spare, he rode off with their wallets and passports that were in the duffle bag in the back.

I sometimes do more than that on a weekend day just to visit a family member for a few hours, or to meander through the mountains but sleep in my own bed that night.

Example, it is 243 miles one-way, between my son's house and ours. We'll make a day of it, leave early, get there late morning, spend the afternoon through dinner with the family, then drive home.

I consider it very good for my well-being....
