Taller 6th gear?
Any of your tranny types (not judging) know if there are other cars with gears that will interchange with our transmission? I want a taller 6th for the highway. Stock puts me at 70 mph at 3k rpm, I'd like that pushed to more like 78 mph at that engine speed.
On my STI someone found you could swap out the 5th and 6 gears from a Legacy GT and get their taller ratios without having to change the center and rear differentials. I'd like to do something along that line. And while the trans is out I could spring for those carbon synchros that were posted a little while ago... |

I know Mfactory already has gear ratio products such as taller 1st and 2nd and shorter 6th. You could talk to them about a custom order taller 6th gear. A taller 6th gear might have the same install process as the taller 1st where you have to shave a bit of the trans casing to make it fit.
I know i'd be interested as i'm looking to get a 4.44 final drive, but I'd like to keep highway rpms down closer to stock.

I think it's a great idea for those who want to run shorter final drives for the track, and have a cruising gear for the street. Here is some data on what's out there:
Stock 6th Gear : 0.767 MFactory 6th Gear : 0.861 The car really benefits performance wise from a shorter final drive, at the cost of daily driving comfort. I'm currently on a 4.8 final drive, and the car runs at 3100rpm @ 60mph. |

After calculation roughly translates to ~
Lexus is300 Final Drive 3.73:1 @ 3000 rpm: Custom 0.687 ratio 6th gear = 86mph Stock 6th gear = 77mph MFactory 6th gear = 68mph (Stock) Final Drive 4.1:1 @ 3000 rpm: Custom 0.687 ratio 6th gear = 78mph <-- What OP wants Stock 6th gear = 70mph MFactory 6th gear = 62mph Final Drive 4.44:1 @ 3000 rpm: Custom 0.687 ratio 6th gear = 72mph Stock 6th gear= 65mph MFactory 6th gear= 58mph Final Drive 4.55:1 @ 3000 rpm: Custom 0.687 ratio 6th gear = 70mph Stock 6th gear = 63mph MFactory 6th gear = 56mph Final Drive 4.67:1 @ 3000 rpm: Custom 0.687 ratio 6th gear = 68mph Stock 6th gear = 61mph MFactory 6th gear = 55mph Final Drive 4.8:1 @ 3000 rpm: Custom 0.687 ratio 6th gear = 67mph Stock 6th gear = 60mph MFactory 6th gear = 53mph

Sign me up. I'm keeping the stock trans for my V8 swap for awhile and I need a much taller 6th gear. I already have a 3.73 final drive but that's still not enough even with 26" tall tires.
