well that sucks for subie fans, but this does not immediately rule out a new AWD subie. just that this guy in Aussieland will not import any RWD car, which is a sound choice I think-- his whole market is based on AWD; I mean I've seen Australia on Discovery, it's all unpaven with animals running around! (I'm being a tad facetious, but still there is parts like this).
I'd also like to point out that the first gen subie wrx was exactly what many subie fans on here sound off of what they want in this new car it seems: 220-240 HP, 26-2700lbs curb weight, AWD...it's a shame the company has gotten so far from that car to these 3200lbs beasts. it will surely be a nice refresh to their line if this new 2-dr that we've seen has all that again, but even at RWD I think it will please MANY fans.

huh? toyota already made the car RWD! as i said it would be MORE CHALLENGING to change this car back into AWD. it would be easier to restart a different design from the impreza chassis. the pics of the test mule is just camoflage on the outside to disguise the car. you can clearly see in the pics that the front wheels are pushed much further forward than in a regular impreza and the front overhang is still much shorter.

Toyota was the one that needed to change where the engine would be situated. That doesn't mean it can only be one design as I said before they can change the mounting points.

Can you photoshop an impreza and the mule side by side to see the over hang?

it's not a matter of simply changing the mounting points. the hood and especially overhang needs to be lengthened in order to fit the AWD system. simply changing the mounting points is not enough.

To me, it looks like there is still some extra room over the front wheels on that test mule. Plus, toyota has designed the chassis from the impreza not the other way around. There could be two version of this chassis... If they want to Subaru could use the impreza and make a 2 door version so technicially toyota would still be using the impreza chassis but modified.

True, but at the same time FHI didn't make same design as FT86, so I'm pretty sure FHI will think of something

I don't doubt that there will be a rwd subaru but I'm saying that there could be an awd variant to go along with this version too.
