1) Look up the proper procedure for a 2-bucket wash. Use grit guards.
2) Ditch the chamois. Use quality microfiber like the Cobra 600 ultra-plush. I started with 6 and order a new set every so often.
3) If your microfiber touches the ground, it's dead. Toss it.
4) Don't use your microfibers on wheels or wheel wells. Or if you do, have a separate set. Towels that touch wheels and wheel wells should never ever touch the paint.
5) Wash your microfibers ONLY with other microfibers. Do not wash with other materials. Wash on cold, dry with low heat. Don't use fabric softener. Consider throwing some white vinegar into the wash.
6) When drying, spray a little quick detailer like Meguiar's Final Inspection onto the towel AND on the paint. Lots of scratches are caused by improper drying, and adding the quick detailer provides an extra layer of protection.

Edit: and to answer your prior question, minor swirl marks should come out with light compounding using something like M105 + M205. If they're really light, M205 should be enough, followed by a sealant/wax/both.
Good points… Also, product makes a good difference. Get a good shampoo and mitt, it's also very important to keep the car waxed. Majority of the swirls come from washing, mainly by wiping dirt debris across the surface. The more you wash, the more chance of swirling, so keep it waxed and you'll have less particles to deal with. A lot of debris can be removed by presoaking the car with regular water. If not too dirty, use a detail spray to keep the car clean in between to minimize washing. Only use high quality microfiber.

These are the products I use...

I highly suggest a power washer. This one is from COSTCO

Washing mitt, these can be debatable

A good shampoo

A good wax

Just make sure that your compressor isn't spewing out lube oil first!
Any guesses on how I know this can be a problem?

Personally I would do compressed air but since I don't this available I drive on the freeway. When I get home I use spray wax and a microfiber towel to get the remaining water. Sometimes I will use a microfiber towel but I spray the wax on the microfiber towel first. I haven't noticed any swirl marks.

Easy, but best to stay away since the recycled water contains contaminants.

I use ONR from a pump up garden sprayer and there's really not much drying needed, just wipe it off.

Also very drought friendly for us westerners.

This is how I washed my super-babied FR-S. It was actually the last car wash I did so it's a little special, but what you should know is that I used 2 buckets with grit guards (1 with soap, 1 with just water) and a separate mit & bucket for wheels. Then I blot dried with a waffle weave microfiber.

Been using two bucket, microfiber, etc, but I think its the optiguard treatment that helped the most. No swirls. Its not thicker but is suppose to be harder than the clear coat.
