Well the OP did say they wanted a new car, I suggested BRZ as I think over time, 90% of people will be happier with it’s looks vs the new 86, plus the BRZ PP/86 TRD are basically equal in the other areas (Sachs dampers, etc.) that the op specified. I ultimately recommended seeing both in person as everyone is entitled to their opinion. I think that’s fair based upon what the OP specified. These cars are a great value used but they are also beaten on and traded in. I have a horror story about a used FRS in the family...it’s a gamble. Not really sure how it entered the discussion but it’s definitely an option. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I would take the 2019 TRD 86. The Kouki TRD kit looks really good IMO.

That TRD edition thing is fucking ugly. I don't care what anyone says.

I got a chance to see the 2019 TRD in person yesterday and I was pretty disappointed. The wheels look tacky, the body kit is overdone, and the special decals look like they will peel off in a couple years. Plus, with the BRZ you can pick any color. I personally wouldn't want to own another black car.

I just saw the TRD in person Saturday. I really like the front end. But all the red accents in the interior are garish to me. I absolutely couldn't live with them. And the side decal is awful. I've seen lots of people removing them.
The other thing to keep in mind is the Toyota head unit is an absolute dog. It's slow and unresponsive, and there's no CarPlay or Android Auto. IT freezes on me at least once a week. The BRZ system is streets ahead. I am ready to trade for a BRZ just because I hate the audio system so much. Also the TRD I saw was priced at $33K. BRZ Limited with PP is $3-$4 cheaper IIRC. So yeah, BRZ all day. |

If I HAD to choose between the new catfish mouth 86 and the BRZ, I guess I have to pick the BRZ. But, I prefer the original FR-S front end over both. #ZenkiGang I guess lol

As the owner of a 2017 86, I'd get the TRD, while I'm not a fan of black, I can wrap it another color. I think the TRD kit looks really good, my local dealership had a TRD Edition out front with the side tri-colored decals removed and the car looks phenomenal. The 86 bumper is the best of the three (four?) bumpers in my opinion and the TRD kit just makes it look better. The Brembos and Sachs dampers are what sell that car for me. Until then, Subaru has had a leg-up on Toyota for a few years as far as performance options.

The better deal is the BRZ. The best deal is a used FRS or BRZ.
MOST people get bitten by the mod bug and end up taking off all their oem bits. 10 Series owners, RS 1.0 owners, RS 2.0 owners, tS owners, series blue owners... I've seen all sorts of parts off of these cars on the used market. So the BEST deal is a used FRS or BRZ where you'll save a ton of money to spend on your own aftermarket parts. |

I am a bit biased as I own a TRD. But I really like it. The body kit sold me. When I bought the car I was just going to test drive it. I wanted to test drive a BRZ or an 86. In a 25 mile radius the TRD was the only one available that day. Once I saw it and drove it I decided to buy it. For the extra cash you pay for the TRD you get the body kit and the cat back. The upcharge is cheaper than if you upgrade these later. Only problem with the TRD is you need to like black and manual trans. Yes I removed the stripes. I kind of liked them and kind of didn't. Left them on for three weeks and then took them off. I also removed the "86" badges on the fenders. So yeah I vote TRD

BRZ, mainly because of that monstrous beak on the 86.
I can't help picturing a proud parent showing off baby pictures of their ugly kid and saying "look how cute they are" when I hear people say how good the 86 bumpers look. Sorry 86ers. Luckily in here we are anonymous so I can say "no, that is horrible!" without the parent gasping in horror at the truth. TLDR: Your baby is ugly. |

I'd go 86 If you can get a good deal on one. A local dealer has one with the yellow stripe delete on the fenders, which looks much cleaner.
A new set of wheels would go a long way too, I really dislike the wheels they chose to slap on the TRD package. They look like cheap aftermarket crap. Depending on your goals for the car and how long you plan to keep it, I suspect it'll hold a bit more value in the future being that it's a more limited edition car. love how these sort of threads always derail into a discussion about the bumper designs as if we can objectively decide for the OP...I like them all wish I had one of each bumper design to swap out every now and then whenever I get bored.

Thanks to all of you. Since it will be the first car I will own in the US, I don't want to deal with any problems by getting a used BRZ/86 (I don't have any mechanic friends and it will take some time to build an environment). Therefore, will get a new one. I had the chance to check a BRZ ts last year and fall in love. The only thing that bothered me was the kit which did look like a cheap attachment (I am sure some do love it). The kit on the TRD look shows a better attachment but I feel like it will have several problems in time with the little rubber seal between the body and the kit.
I also think that BRZ has a better head unit but I like the exterior of the TRD over the BRZ. Yesterday I had the opportunity to check a TRD and I also fall in love with it. I agree with some comments that the TRD interior (especially the red additions) looks a little weird (the red attachments on the TRD were looking awesome. The problem I have is that I like the front of TRD but not the back I am glad that I don't have to deal with the performance since they are same. I also think if the TRD will be the choice I will not carry the side decal for a long time. The plan is using as stock and daily. Thanks |
