DIY - Fix your Rear Deck "popping/clicking/tapping/ticking" noise.

1 : Remove your Rear Deck like this :

http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10002

2 : "Crack" each spot weld carefully with a flat screw driver on each side, he probably miss some pictures but take your time and don't forget any spots if you don't want to remove the rear deck twice. You just need to push the screw driver into the crack and twist it carefully and slowly, you are supposed to heard a little cracking and you need to twist until the cracking sound stop.

***Important : When I say "CRACK", it's not crack enough like to break spot weld, but to only crack, you just need to squeeze and turn the screw driver a little bit and slowly.

Not too hard, you don't want to broke your brand new car.

3 : Apply Lithium Grease into each crack.

4 : Clean the extra Grease

5 : Clean your rear Window before replace your rear deck because it's too hard to clean on back of the third brake light.

6 : Replace your Rear Deck

Now, i never heard any cracking noise from the rear deck anymore.....finally!!!

Enjoy!

Mike

You might want to explain "crack each spot weld" a little better, do you mean seprate each spot weld, or bend up the metal to get the grease in there.. Might just want to explain that better before people are prying and prying because they think you mean break each spot weld completely apart.. Unless that's what you mean, and if so I might just live with the noise lol..

You just need to "crack" each spot weld until the cracking noise stop.

On mine, I had a light tick sound and fixed it by spraying deep creep in the pocket shaped cavities on the underside of the rear deck, no disassembly required. I'd try that before taking everything apart.

DIY - Fix your Rear Deck "popping/clicking/tapping/ticking" noise.

I have already try without disassemble and spraying some Lithium grease and the sound never disappeared.

This is why my solution is for others user where only use grease doesn't fix the problem.

And this is not only concerning using grease, this is also about, you need to crack each spot weld.

Thanks to the OP for putting this up. I've been able to eleminate 90% of my deck popping by applying this "cracking" of panel joints I can get to witout removing the rear tray. The majority of them being the underside of the deck in the trunk. I'll also add that by dropping the rear seat and grabbing the top portion along the deck and pulling pretty hard "cracked" a few more joints.

Made a big difference but still a minor pop going on. I'm sure I'll nedd to remove the plastic deck at some point to get to the joints underneath it to eleminate it entirely.

Spent several hours disassembling the car this weekend, put grease all over that back deck, and viola! The problem seems to be fixed! Thank you so much for this write up - my mornings will be much less stressful now.
