I doubt they would bring it over here for just one vehicle though, it would have to be in the midst of them going all turbo on all their cars.
When Subaru unveiled the new Levorg STI Sport concept at TAS a few weeks ago, it was reported, that they stated -- during the unveiling -- the model was powered by a 1.8L Turbo. Now, I wasn't there first-hand to hear that. but that was the reporting coming out. So it may not be outside the realm of possibility

For what its worth... According to Motor1 it was while unveiling the regular Levorg prototype. (see below)

"When Subaru unveiled the regular Levorg prototype, it said something about a newly developed turbocharged boxer engine with a 1.8-liter displacement, direct injection, and lean-burn tech. The horizontally opposed mill generates strong torque, although an exact number has not been revealed."

Good catch -- I knew it was the Levorg is some capacity. But regardless, it does confirm the existence of a new 1.8T in Subaru's lineup. Whether they export that motor, it still undetermined.

Yes, yes it absolutely would. My fingers are still crossed. Really, really hoping for this.

Again, why do y'all want a truck engine in your sports car?

Fun they all want the 2.4 when is is sort of confirmed (we don't really know much about it) that they are using a new 1.8 in the Levorg.
It is not at all probable they would put a 2.4 turboed engine in the 86/BRZ while using a new 1.8 in the other performance models.
If they do go against everything they have ever said and use a turbo then it would be a more likely candidate.

The biggest surprise is that all the clickbaits that said the had "confirmed insider info" that the 2.4 would be used haven't changed their story and pretended they never said it.

People claim to like sporty stuff but what actually sells is trucks. Big things with lots of torque.

People claim to like shifting for themselves but they buy things that are so torquey that no shifting is necessary. Why shift when you can mash the gas?

Make it an automatic SUV with 300+ ft-lbs and sales will go through the roof. Nobody wants a sports car.

Newest rumors are of a 2.1 V4 DS4 engine to fit Toyotas new global architecture. The boxer was deemed too wide for the frame rails.
