It looks as though almost all Toyotas will be hybrids
https://www.cnet.com/roadshow/news/2...icial-details/
At least for Sienna and Venza they are keeping down horsepower a bit so gen2 twins win FINALLY beat them from the traffic lights. Now, if they could eliminate the pesky V6 Camry from the lineup, it's a shoe-in! As comical as it might sound, let it be known this was a big irritation to twin owners. Egos crushed by yet another soccer mom on her way to Safeway!

Wonder how much additional torque?

Don't be so sure. Hybrids have gobs of torque at 0 rpm. And the near future almost everything will be a hybrid, especially after they get the solid state batteries working correctly. |

Tada San has been hinting at a hybrid setup for gen 2 since 2012. Not traditional hybrid, but more of a KERS assist.

Imagine people increasing power through aftermarket supercapacitors. We're crossing into audio territory. "Hey Man, those 80,000,000 pF cans really give this car the power it should have had in the first place." Also, mechanics will need to avoid electrocution. I can just picture the yellow multi lingual warning stickers with a symbol of an electrocuted stick man with a wrench in his hand. lol

Toyota HSD doesn't really work like a normal transmission though. When you have the engine spinning while the power split device output shaft is stopped (like it would be when the car is stopped), the connected motor is spinning backwards. No matter how fast you can get the gasoline engine to spin, the electric motor's torque (the greater of the two) is the limiting factor.
So you need to multiply the two electric motors' gear ratios by their torques and add them together to get the torque to the differential, then look at the advertised maximum power and calculate at what speed does that peak torque correspond to, and then assume approximately constant power from that speed and up. Since the ring gear speed is limited by basically 2x the max engine rpm, the gearing is probably pretty tall to enable high speed driving. It's effectively two motors with one speed gearboxes like Tesla, but several times less power. |

the Sienna was one of the top selling minivans on the market, and up until 2020 it only had the V6 as an engine option.
bumping it up to 33MPG with the hybrid makes it a very compelling vehicle for most usage scenarios in suburban settings, especially with that space. current hybrid batteries last a long time and aren't that expensive, the backbreaker is the transmission. |

I know it's likely to be stupid expensive but the Hummer EV is exciting to me. The specs are so outrageous it makes me want one. The removable roof panels don't hurt the cool factor.
