Dual Toyota Switch Insert for Dash Cubby

I picked up a new to me 2016 FRS Release Series 2.0 a few weeks ago and have been playing around with it. One thing I have noticed is the nearly useless cubby right the of the engine start button. I am familiar with the aftermarket Toyota style switches from some of my other vehicles (2011 FJ Cruiser/2013 Tacoma) and decided to model up something more useful for the cubby.

This is still a work in progress and I am refining the shape and fitment but thought I would get some feedback from the forum. The first picture shows just the insert (lacking the actual supports for the switches internally) and the second and third pictures show it with 2 heated seat switches installed (it's all I had on the shelf)

Useless because too narrow width left due start button. It's wider/actually usable on lower trim twins with conventional key. So if modding something, there was one nice mod i liked (sorry, too lazy to search), where one relocated start button instead to center console.

What do you intend to use two more switches for?

Good job so far !

Did you model your insert using a cad software ou did you just make it with your bare hands ?

I'm planning to do something similar so if you can share some advices or plans thanks !

I am contemplating adding a ham radio to the car and I would likely use one of the spaces for that. I am not 100% sure what I would use the second for. Possibly switch to turn on the reverse camera like I have done in my other cars.

I have been using SolidWorks to model it. I still have to fix the left edge fitment and the current model requires some minor shaping with a sanding block to contour the front.

I really liked that idea as well. Reminds me of the old Saab's with the keys in the center.

I've been making and selling these for many, many months now, but while I've sold tons of them through various FB groups, I've gotten almost no interest from folks in this forum, lol. Mine just include generic switches that can be used to control various random accessories.

Quote:
I make these myself, and I've sold over 80 so far, with no complaints! It's a 3D-printed plastic chassis with four, or six ON/OFF, SPST toggle switches. They have a red status LED on the tip, and are rated for 12V @ 30A. I make inserts in sizes to fit both push start and NON push start vehicles.

People have used this to control everything from Pedal Dance, to Radiator Fans, to Dashcams, to Radar Detectors, to Trailer Harnesses, to Driving Lights, to Underglow, to Air Compressors, to Active Exhaust, to Subwoofers, to Air Horns, etc...

This is designed to slot into the useless cubby hole in the lower dash. All you need to do is wire it up however you want for whatever accessories you have, and insert it into the cubby hole. You'll have to drill/cut out the back of the cubby to run wires, and I recommend a dab of glue in the long run once you finalize the wiring. A new trim piece is less than $5 at the dealership if this worries you.
