If money weren't an option, I'd just take the GR86 because I love the styling more and the option for a manual. Plus I can spare no expense on modifications I deem fit.

They are two different cars at different price points. I had a 2013 BRZ Limited, a bunch of cars in between, and now own a 21 Supra.

It comes down to what you want and your goals, my last three cars all had excess of 400whp with little to no mods. So I find the Supra to be the perfect balance for me in terms of handling and power. With very little mods I am pushing over 400whp/tq and with a few suspension changes the car is extremely planted and direct.

An insider confirmed over the weekend that the 3.0 2023 Supra will offer a manual trans. This same insider provided tons of factual information about the car before launch and seems to have personal connections with Tada. We also have third party pictures of the manual gearbox from someone who claims their buddy is testing the manual Supra. It all seems very likely at this point and Tada had hinted before that a manual could come if sales supported it.

I guess they did

How do you like the Supra compared to the BRZ?

if the Supra came with a 6 speed manual I would have one right now otherwise with current choices between manual GR 86 vs 3.0 I would much rather have the new twin.. At this point the real question is trying to decide between hypothetical GR Corolla versus hypothetical special edition/GRMN 86.

...and if money was truly no object I would own a huge hangar with 1 of each car on the market lol

Not really interested, to big and heavy, and the M2 is available in manual if i would want such a car. But i would rather chose an Exige V6 than a heavy GT car, though i wouldn't plow around with that in the snow as i do with the 86. Or maybe possibly an Alpine a110, but i would miss a manual trans from day one. But

What would be cheaper to maintain, a Toyota with a Subaru engine or a Toyota with a BMW engine?

I'd rather have a Toyota with a Toyota engine, actually. That GR Yaris would be fun if it wasn't a $40k car. I think that's why most people buy 4Runners. They are very reliable and hold their value well.

Wait, what was the question?

I cross-shopped the Supra versus the 86 (first gen) and the 86 was clearly the better car to drive.

Did I like the power of the Supra... hell yes. But it felt like I was in a cave when driving it and it lacked any feel at all like pretty much any current BMW.

Right on!

Still waiting for my GR86 but I’ve driven a 2nd Gen BRZ about 10 miles and like 80% of full throttle and I was able to conclude right away I enjoy it better than the GR Supra (3.0).

The Supra is missing the tactility that the twins have, a big reason is the manual transmission. If the Twins were automatic-only just like the GR Supra and money wasn’t a factor I’d probably take the GR Supra because having that usable power and torque can be pretty enjoyable.

But in the real world if you pit automatic twins vs GR Supra, the twins are still amazing bang for buck and I’d easily choose to save the $20,000+.

Exactly—the rumors about a manual GR Supra are cool but to me that still won’t make it a significantly better car than the GR86/BRZ. I also experienced the “lack of feel,” especially through the steering which is where majority of a vehicle’s feel comes from.

Sub 3600lb, 444hp, 406lb-ft. Yeah, I could live with that. I have a couple buddies with M2CS and they are awesome track cars.

I'd love a Yota on Yota relationship but I'm just glad both cars are there for their dedicated audience.

I used to have a 2013 FRS. It's got an old soul.

I now have a MK5 Supra. It's got a new soul and amenities for an old man like me lol. It does what the FRS did, just not as good but the straight line rush makes up for it.

Both potent in their own ways. I was 90% set on the new GT86 but am still awaiting word on the GR Corolla and Civic Type R.

BTW, speaking of 4Runners. My mom's 2002 4Runner Sport just hit 400k miles with just basic maintenance. It was well worth the 34k she paid lol

Having sat in a supra, the car is IMO less daily friendly in a way as the cabin is much tighter and also roof line is so low getting in and out is even more uncomfortable than the 86.

Ive driven a friends M2 competition, and its a mighty car, it even looks pretty good for being amodern BMW surprisingly, but I prefer my GT86 on the roads, it has sharper steering, better gear change, better driving position and feels much lighter and i prefer less power on our twisty roads, since I can use it all more of the time. They are really fast on track though, and that engine is a peach, and brutally strong, but you need a deep wallet to run them, at least on our fairly twisty tracks with the hefty weight of the M2 they do go through tyres like theres no tomorrow.

it's a great car. Looked at them also. Not everybody is cross shopping due to price. My issue with modern BMW is a serious lack of steering feel (huge deal for me after an Elise and an Evora) and they're just too heavy. A modern M2CS weighs more than an E39 M5. Will never be able to get my head around that.
