here is a fun conundrum to pass the time while we wait for info.

What if the twins get the Supra 8spd auto and the auto is actually faster than the manual and comes with a legit paddle shift function.

before you knee jerk, stop and think on it for a minute. You might find yourself actually considering an automatic.

Nope. I want to shift myself. #SaveTheManuals. But the current Auto was not that bad. Plus I don't think its gonna get a ZF anyways. No Subie or Toyota has one besides the Supra and that's basically a BMW so it don't count.

But it won't.

Even in America now Camaro prices are insane to me honestly. This was one of my side cars I just sold to get either the upcoming brz/86 or a 2020 if I don’t like the new model.

My 2012 5th gen, was $31000 out the door new SS with RS package, LS3 426hp stock and a manual transmission.

The current 6th gen is mid $40’s for the SS 6spd.

Reason I sold it is I live in California now (not Detroit) and live in the mountain roads, hence the need for a lighter car which handles well, this car was 3860 pounds without driver. Fast in a straight line, but far too heavy! Only had 48k miles when I sold it.
I still have my STI, but want a light weight RWD platform.

This car had HP but HP isn’t everything, I have more fun in my friends Caymans, Mx5’s and BRZ/86 in the mountains compared to the Camaro. I prefer a lightweight RWD drivers car personally.

Inflation sucks No way you can get a car with 400+Hp and a 6 spd manual for $31k nowadays
Yes you can. C5 Z06 2003-2004

You can find them for 20-30K depending on shape and mileage

if you for even a second think that i bought the car for a misguided take on ultimate speed, you're so mistaken, it's not even funny.

i never bought the car for speed, or power. i bought it specifically for driver engagement. and nothing engages me more than 3 pedals and a few dozen tight turns that require rev-matching.

if i wanted ultimate speed, there's a few dozen models produced over the past decades that outperform the 86 in that aspect, and after depreciation is factored in, are cheaper than the 86 is.

Thought about it for a minute. Wasn’t impressed. Carried on with life.

add me to the list. the balance of the existing car is fantastic in its natural habitat = twisty mountain roads.

I've added UEL catless headers, overpipe and a tune to my MY14 86 and it's a better car for it. I just think emissions compliance strangled this car from the factory - I am just doing what Subie and Toyota intended with this engine. The stock tune is pretty much garbage anyway.

all I want to know at the moment about the next model is what the stock alloys look like, will they be 18 x 8 and have a 5x100 stud pattern so I can pick up a cheap set of 18's when people ditch the stockies on their MY21.

Nah. If I wanted to be faster I'd get a second hand WRX. The whole point of this car is the driving experience which, for me, involves shifting manually.

I think I'm the only one who feels if a new gen got any sort of FI, a positive displacement supercharger would be better suited for this car.

Nope. I could give a rat’s ass about which one is faster.

This is weird for me to read. Everyone always talks about wanting to have more manual options but there are so few of us that it's difficult for car manufacturers to cater to us. It's a huge reason I picked up the 86 new instead of used. I wanted to put my money where my mouth is and vote with my wallet.

I've been driving manuals since just after high school and having a bike really makes all cars feel slow... so engagement when driving is a really nice feature.

Don't be silly. How are they going to build a 3 second supercar for $25,000 using a supercharger?
It is turbo or nothing!
