Good start but might need a few more tests to back this up. The temperature difference is huge and if it can be replicated it would be incredible.

This is already sold to a happy GT86 owner. It wasn't just the issue with the holes. It didn't fit quite well with the bumper of BRZ.

Never took any pics of the fitment by any chance? Was it just the curvature where it mounted or was it just crap?

The mounting points were different. I haven't heard any complains from the other guy. Maybe it worked for him, maybe not. Dunno.

I use the Innovated Dynamics Intake Duct that replaces the frs fog and turn signal lights. I have a turn signals in the headlights so i retain the functionality.
