The anti-cheat is known spyware/malware.
Something else I didn't know is it has kernel level access which is super sus if you ask me.

You clearly didn't listen to to your Super Earth public service announcement did you? Thereby that is punishable to the fullest extent of the law!

Also I have not heard anything about spyware/malware with the game. But now I'm curious and shall google this. For liberty and for Super Earth!

Any kind of effective anti-cheat monitor is going to need to monitor peripheral hardware inputs to compare to game inputs. Then that needs to be sent to a server somewhere. Effectively the same thing spyware payloads do.

So I was looking into it and yeah apparently it's for anticheat but has caused peoples AV to throw false positives but even legit ones. Supposedly it's perfectly fine but a handful of people were losing their shit over it lol

I get the whole false positive thing but when our cyber guys at my job put out a warning it's worth not taking the chance.

This shit doesn't happen often. Been like 3-4 years since I've seen this kind of warning.
They even said yeah it's not the game its the anti-cheat program itself that is throwing up red flags. (red flag does not equal false positive)
The anti-cheat is already know as the worst one out there. It is also something that can be changed to a better one with very little work.

Like the whole Epic Game store thing.

Oh wow. That doesn't seem like a balanced way to handle security/vulnerability.

Definitely a bit much in my opinion for a game. I'll be passing on this one.

Most if not all recent (Windows) anti-cheat has kernel access. It's one of the reasons why so many online only competitive games don't work on the Steamdeck/Linux. For a program to get kernel access it would need root access, Steam/Proton/Wine runs in userspace only and doesn't get access to the kernelspace.
Helldivers 2 apparently works on steamdeck/linux thanks to a loophole in a recent Proton update.
So if you want to play Helldivers, play it on steamdeck/linux.

Some anti cheat support (BattleEye and Easy AntiCheat) support Steam/Proton and just need to be enabled by the developer (just press a "Support Proton" button), but most devs don't do it because of the "not-possible-to-spy-on-users-on-linux" problem.

I you are afraid of spying anti-cheat do not install Valorant.
Valorant anti-cheat is a known rootkit and is known to F up pc's.
Or BSoD you because you have singleplayer cheats for SP only game.

Edit:
In cause somebody claims you can't game on linux, example a is the steamdeck, example b, I run Cyberpunk 2077 on Psycho settings and Path tracing, using Heroic launcher on a Linux Mint install.

Yeah, go after the "kernel access" argument because that was the problem...

Drunk driving causes accidents. Better ban all alcohol! /s
I fthat is how you read it, no that wasn't what i was saying.

It has kernel access as does ALOT OF SHIT. Problem is that what it does with it is super sus. Things a game doesn't need to do.

All the games that have come out over the years. Like I said we only got an email about this particular one because of its popularity and sus anti-cheat behavior.

Shall I start listing the 100s of other games I have in my steam library with an anti-cheat that were fine?

Just assumed everyone left on here was smart enough to follow it to its logical conclusion.

Was this comment pointed at me?

Because I just pointed out that most anti-cheat are invasive and have kernel acces (which is a bad thing) and that Valorant's AI driven Anti-cheat Riot Vangaurd is straight up a rootkit which is even worse. And I pointed out that's one of the reason why alot online games aren't supported on the Steamdeck because of "the not possible to get acces to the kernel" and spy on users.
And if you want to play Helldivers 2 play it on Linux, the anti cheat can't do anything, the only thing it sees is a fake Windows 10 and once you close the game that fake windows 10 doesn't run anymore. It can't see or acces the linux distro.

Regarding the Steamdeck, The SteamOS is an immutable distro which means the base is unchangable and root level is locked down. The Root FS is read only so it's not even possible to write any spyware, malware or whateverware.

That's one of many reason why I use Linux Mint as my main OS.
And if you really want to be safe, use GeForce Now (or other gamestreaming service).
No anti-cheat on your pc then.

This is series, and from what I've seen it has potential. The power armour are practical suits BTW, not CGI. Already a win.

After completing rdr2, I am thinking about what to play next. So far I have a choice of Guardians of the Galaxy or Death Stranding. While choosing I play some online games at playhop.
