header newbie

I'm new to the whole getting headers for a car. never got them don't know much information about them. So far i have aem CAI and ecutek racing rom tune installed on my car. My next step i'm thinking of taking is headers since I hear you get a good gain with the ecutek tune. My question is if you get headers does it cause you to have the check engine light on? I'm asking cause i'm seeing that all the headers come cattless? Just want to get some more information on headers?

I believe the fa20club headers are the first to be catted. Sound clips available on YouTube
Yes, check engine light will go on if it's catless.

I think I may have heard the fa20club catted ones. The ones I liked so far were the borla UEL headers so far as far as sound. I shall have to check the fa20club one again

FT86SpeedFactory are making catted headers. HKS makes catted ones as well.

P&L had catted headers before Fa20club did, and are not made by Fa20club.

Thanks for some of the information guys. I really appreciate all the information I can get. Any idea on how much these catted headers cost? Or where to look for best prices?

If you are Ecutek tuned, your tuner can turn off the O2 and only have the primary pre cat one on. Go catless. More power, cheaper, cat is less prone to burn out faster in a front pipe than a header. 1 cat will get you past a sniffer inspection but not visual.

if your particular about who you order from/quality i'd stay away from fa20club.

from whats been on the forums lately anyways.

bad welds, massive wait times, bad fitment, just a friendly warning from what ive been hearing wish i had some $ for headers

JDL UEL is the top UEL header for the 86. If the subaru rumble is not your thing, I recommend the Nameless header.

Guarantee those two headers will be the benchmark for this car for vendors to compete with. They come with a price, but also a lifetime warranty and straight performance. Beautiful welds, coating options, and fitment is spot on after revisions.

I have Borla UEL and I dont have any problems. Yes, the welds do look a little crappy but it fits fine with no problems. I got a O2 spacer with a package I got from FT86speedfactory and Ive had it on for a few months now with no CEL.
