Custom Side Exit Exhaust (With Pic) (+ Pics of Catback under the car))

After buying the car with the TRD Exhaust, remaining unhappy, getting used Speedfactory V2, remaining unhappy, then getting JDL Catback which blew out, i decided to work with a friend to build a custom exhaust.

Current setup:
- Skunk2 Catless Header
- JDL Overpipe
- JDL Midpipe, Cut in half and replaced with custom Vibrant Piping + Full SS Vbands
- Custom SS Catback, with Vibrant Piping, Resonator, Muffler and SS V-band
- Custom Exhaust Outlet

Heres a teaser of a side exit exhaust i've been working on with a friend...

And...Yes, I used a hole saw on my bumper....

Cool idea. I've thought about side pipes before, but never seriously. I'm curious how well the bumper will hold up to the heat.

If you're still going to use that length of exhaust piping, why bother having it exit out an alternative direction?

Instantly thought "cool" something like the Roush mustang where it exits in front of the rear wheel, but this is. . . different? Wonder how much more piping you used and if the bumper will melt.

Thanks!

It wasn't any additional piping actually, just a bit more piecuts, and welding. After having ordered the vibrant piping and muffler, friend and I tried to find the smoothest way out.

I'll take a pic of the exhaust from the back/under the car later today. In there you will see the exahust comes straight from under the rear end, goes up to a 90 to the muffler and then straight out of the side

I have been looking for ideas to finish it up, and looked for SFWD Hondas and their hood, fender and bumper exits as inspiration, but this looks pretty sweet.

Just FYI, I was able to melt my rear bumper w/ an aftermarket exhaust that was about as close to the bumper as you have in your picture. It happened about 15 minutes into a track day.

And I was 100% stock engine aside from the exhaust.

YMMV.

Your rear tire looks like it's rotating in the wrong direction.

Yep - Long story short, shop mounted 1x tire, rear passenger on backwards.

Ended up getting both rear tires replaced from the shop under warranty

Was yours coming out of the rear / Originial exhaust exit locations? That black plastic trim is really sensitive to heat, much more sensitive than the bumper.

My Speedfactory v2 exhust often slipped off the hangers, and caused the muffler to rub against the black trim. It melted mine too.

The Bumper has been much better with the heat. Infact, the exhaust tip currently rubs against the bumper, shaking it at times. It hasnt done any damage other than carve the hole a little bigger.

Will be finding a better way to secure it so it doesn't move in the hole.
