"Luminary" is what is engraved on the barrel and molded into the back of the center caps of the ones I got. The parts are from China. I tried to look up Luminary and found an import business based in California that apparently has connections with wheel manufacturers in China.

Nope. He never did take it in so I will save it for the Hakone when it is needed.
It looks deeper because the smoke from all the wildfires in the country has blocked enough light that the sun looks like we are seeing it from Mars. This is 5pm NOT a sunset!

Not sure what I will do for the Hakone just yet but I will probably go adjustable something so I can raise back up in the winter. The exhaust is a priority (for both sound and the sunken tips) and I am sort of half assed searching for a used TRD or something similar. Normally cost isn't a factor to me but due to COVID my wife has been laid off a few times and we had some unexpected home repair costs this year so it may have to wait. Much like the LAva the Hakone will stay stock other than lowering and cat/axleback (depending on what I find) exhaust.

In case anyone is wondering what a Hakone looks like without bronze wheels (does that make it Half-a-kone?), here are some pics of mine with its new shoes.
The 17X7.5 forged TRD wheels I got from a local Toyota dealer for a pretty good price during a 4th of July sale. The 215/45R17 (yes- the OEM size) Bridgestone Potenza Sports were also discounted $100USD/set at Tire Rack. I decided I would try something different (for me, anyway) and go for adding lightness instead of adding extreme amounts of grip. Using my far-from-calibrated bathroom scale, I weighed myself with and without holding the stock tire/wheel/TPMS/balance weights assembly and it worked out to 41 lbs. (18.6 kg). The new setup weighs in at 37 lbs. (16.8 kg). So I've trimmed 4 lbs. per corner. That should keep the car light on its feet and improve cornering grip at the same time. The TRD wheels are matte finish gunmetal gray, but I'm not a big fan of matte finished wheels. I applied some compound and polish to give them a little more shine and sparkle, then a good coat of wax to help future cleaning. As you can see, the 5mm reduction in offset and the 1/2 in. increase in rim width resulted in a modest flushening (is that a word? It is now!) but it's nowhere near hella flush. I'm OK with it. I have no intention to track the car, and I will be driving on weatherbeaten midwest roads, so no lowering. The fender gap remains. The bronze stock wheels will have a new assignment. Their heavy, narrow attributes will be appreciated when they are shod with winter tires in a few months. |
