They are worked out, it was a production line issue with over torquing or under torquing. The engine is not the same from 2013 btw. There are some differences in internals, coil packs etc from 2013, 2015 and 2017-2018 all to make the engine more efficient, even the "red manifold" which flows better is a design cost. From an engine production standpoint those are massive differences. @Tcoat happen to have the brochure link of all the changes for just the 2017+ or 2018 year?

People seem to think that new cars are all perfect but that is not reality. Manufacturing and assembly issues happen every single day. If they get caught in time they get fixed before they hit the dealers but sometimes some slip through. No matter how much automation is involved cars and their parts are still made by people and people screw up. As long as the manufacturer acknowledges the problems and take action to correct them we really can't complain.

Proof that the post-facelift cars are unreliable, bloated messes compared with the early models.

Yep I was aware there were tons of changes @tobin @BRZnut there's your explanation of the changes, it's still reliable and just a few 2018s they rest are still reliably chugging along. Hard to make large assumptions like that....

This was my thought exactly. The manager I spoke to said that this car is new. I corrected him and told him that yes, my car is new, but this car has been around for 6 years now. He didn't have a reply for that and my beef isn't with him at all. I'm just here hoping Toyota/Subaru does right by all their loyal consumers. That's all.

This issue effecting your car was a production line issue, either someone had the wrong setting on one of there machines to torque down the valves or something similiar to that.

So when the valves heat up and expand the clearance is closing up? Or are they sticking in the guides? Valves don't get torqued down.

That can mean either stem to guide clearance or valve to rocker clearance

Per thread link it was valve adjustment. Does fa20 use shims?

Okay. Smaller shims are needed. Pain in the ass but not the end of the world.

The service manager said "stuck". I didn't want to go into details as the call was out of nowhere and I was at work. I'll get the full story when my car is ready. If you guys have any questions, I'll gladly ask on your behalf if it's of relevance.
