Need some advice choosing a Cat Back
I installed the JDL UEL headers a few weeks ago and am loving it. While I had it up on the lift I noticed quite a bit of rust on the stock exhaust, so I'm thinking about replacing it pretty soon. I've looked at a lot of different options and am debating between the Invidia N1 and Q300 at the moment. I really like the N1, but am a little afraid it'll be too loud with these headers. Is it generally better to go with the Q300 with catless UEL headers? I'd like a good amount of sound on acceleration, but no drone when cruising. Any feedback would be appreciated.

No drone means no N1.
Personally I'd go with a 2.5 inch resonated Perrin CBE. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Lots of people seem to combo a resonatedresonated 2.5" Perrin catback with catless headers. From what I've heard in person and on YouTube it seems to be a solid combo.

IMO Trd catback is just right, not too loud. It is subtle with zero rasp.

I have JDL Catless UEL/Catted FP/OP with Invidia Q300. The setup is perfect for anyone looking to be 100% discrete.
For me I was hoping for a LITTLE more sound. It sounds fantastic below 3k but stock (mostly engine sound) above that. I'm already considering a new setup after a month. In my recent research I've been considering the Perrin Resinated. This seems to have more upper end sound while keeping a good rumble with UEL header. Other than that I'm up in the air, even looking at single exit exhaust setup(more subdued ones). If I get a new catback before you I'll let you know the outcome. If you do before I'll check in for updates. From what I've read though go with Perrin over Invidia unless you wanna be super discrete (it's fantastic at that in an aggressive tone don't get me wrong). Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

You definitely do not want the N1 if sound is a concern. Both the Perrin and q300 are good choices but I would go with the q300 if you plan on swapping out your front and over pipes later on since it is a bit quieter.

I'm probably going to replace my front pipe with a JDL catted version at some point. I have to keep at least 1 cat for STX.

It can be quiet when you need it to be. HOWEVER, it can be really bass-y and it resonates quite a bit. I have to try really hard not to set off car alarms in my work parking garage. All things considered, I love it. Edit again: This is exactly my experience. I haven't personally heard the Q300 with this setup, but it's supposed to be slightly quieter than the Perrin. Don't get the invidia n1, its going to drone like crazy. I've heard from people that own that catback and say that its really loud all by itself. If you want a more subtle exhaust, I'd suggest the magnaflow catback. I run it and love it. It sounds exactly like the trd catback imo but looks better than those god awful triangular tips. Here's a sound clip of my car coupled with a borla unequal length header.

If price is not your concert xD, Sti one is really nice with almost zero drone.
If you wanna spent a bit Ark Preformance DTS haust system doesn't drone as well & it's about a 1100 (replaces midpipe & muffler), lastly MXP Comp RS Catback does not drone as well & it's @ a super friendly 600 after tax. I think most ppl only listed the answer that everyone knows. (no offense) XD So here is a bit more for you to hear & research on youtube. |
