In a RWD car, the trans connects to the motor, the driveshaft connects the trans to the diff and the axles come from the diff to the rear wheels. I think the knock on the SRT-4 is owners in general are an "interesting" group and its FWD. I agree its a stout motor.

I think the swap would be cool as hell. Not something I would ever bother to do though.
I own both cars as well and the thought has crossed my mind, but I'd rather keep my popcorn maker in my Neon. BTW mine is an ACR also. |

My wife drives our 128i - I always daydream of doing a swap with that thing.
While I won't ever actually do it, I LOVE the smooth, revvy nature of that i6 and the power band is terrific as well. Between the tall, long heavy engine fitting (height-wise) and the complete sabotage of the weight balance and COG, it's never going to happen, but it'd be a GREAT swap. |

It's been said already, but the FWD gearbox is 100% useless in a RWD layout (unless you're going mid engine transverse like an MR2).
That 2.4 is also a pretty tall engine, might have clearance issues in our engine bay. They are very solid engines, just not sure it's worth the effort required.

Before all that I had broken the stock shift selector once and snapped two stock input shafts from aggressive shifting lol. Also had the 3rd gear pop out issue too. Always fun when you are just driving along and your car just magically pops out of gear. |

If you are truly serious about doing this swap, that would be your best bet. |

Interesting idea. I have an SRT-4 as well, its been bulletproof and an absolute blast with a good suspension setup, E85 and an upgraded wheel. (16G BWS) Gobs of torque and a quick spool... While I'd love that in this car, I like each platform separately. Driving them back to back lets you appreciate the virtues of each.

I'd much rather see the engine go in an Eclipse, but I wouldn't be opposed to it in an FR-S. Still, as long as we are talking about SRT swaps, I'd love to see people shove the whole SRT line of engines under the hood of their FR-Ses or BRZs (minus the SRT-6).

I hop in the SRT for when I want to mash the pedal down and wreak havoc. I am running a little over 400whp/tq and grin every time I get mushed into my seat (when I have traction that is). And then the FRS is my daily. Tons of fun to drive around on my daily commutes but still great on gas. Plus it doesn't get me in as much trouble as the Neon. |
