There a gas quality difference if you get premium from a shitty gas station. In Vancouver B.C. DOMO 91 and Shell 91, already showed a difference in performance.

Ethanol-blended gasoline is a fuel that typically contains up to 10% ethanol in unleaded gasoline. We use ethanol in our gasoline where legislation requires its use and where conditions warrant. The Federal Government has regulated that motor gasoline sold in Canada after Sept. 1, 2010 must contain an annual pool average of 5% ethanol. Different provincial mandates also exist, some with higher ethanol pool requirements. Because of these mandates, most grades of Petro-Canada fuel may now contain up to 10% ethanol. This represents a change from the previous state, where premium fuel was ethanol-free at Petro-Canada. To find out if ethanol-blended gasoline is sold at a station look for the yellow labels in the pump area indicating that the fuel may contain a maximum of 10% ethanol.

Shell Vpower does not have any ethanol, its posted on the gas station pump.

I just double check the regulation at Canada government website. It is mandatory for all gasoline supplier to add ethanol into their fuel due to better emission and combat climate change.

actually, it says

"equires fuel suppliers to ensure an annual average of five per cent ethanol in their gasoline."

AVERAGE

that means your 91 samples can be ethanol free and you still meet the law's requirements

I've found (and this is just anecdotal evidence, so ymmv), that most guys with modern direct injection engines tend to prefer vpower (91oc, no ethanol) to 93/94 with 10%+ ethanol. I know in my last car (335i), most guys avoided ethanol all together, seemed to cause too many issues.

I have no clue, since it also state fuel supplier need to summit Compliance report too. And if shell report no ethanol in V-power and the government say OK then it's fine with me and good for us too. :happy0180:

That 5% is average across ALL THE GRADES they sell to meet the regulation. Since Shell sells their lower octane gasoline the most, across all their grades, they easily meet that average. it's not 5% min per grade.

/wave Hi! I sold my 335i last fall. They were DPEs actually, but the design was so similar to HRE it might as well have been the same.

So I am embarrassed to ask, but I don't recognize your username (well, I do a little... I think..)...that may be because I am old and crazy...but remind me?

Oh, haha, I know now. As for me picking up an FRS/BRZ; I thought about it quite seriously. I drove one first week of July and raved about it so much I managed to get Marco (the guy I work with) to buy one. :p Hope you're enjoying yours!
