Best UEL catless header

Hey guys...shopping around for a header for the FR-S and am wanting a good quality UEL header for a decent price....was scoping out Tomei UEL header and wanted to know if anyone is running it and are you pleased with the sound and what kind of tone it produces. The thing that puts me in a bind is that the videos you hear online do not compare to the sound in person.

I think for catless UEL, JDL has the best quality and good power gain. I think I saw some members hit 200whp with JDL UEL on pump gas

I was actually looking at JDL being one of my choices... But 200whp?

I'd need to see the graph to believe that. Most UEL hover around 182-185 on pump gas with full exhaust.

I agree with you...not trying to be a jerk...just never seen them numbers out of a header alone.

not headers alone, but it was N/A with pump gas with JDL UEL header and supporting mods:

e85 != pump gas, at least not yet. Pump gas mostly refers to 91/93 as that is what is available in most areas.... So, first dyno is on e85.

The second dyno was done on a 50 degree day with dense air. Also, he got 206hp N/A and only 233 after adding a supercharger? Yeah, something isn't right with the "206hp" dyno on 93 octane. His dyno charts are in the build thread.

You can't reach 200whp on these cars without e85 unless your dyno is reading high or you're feeding a cold shot of dense air directly at the intake with a fan. My car is currently sitting at 185hp/150tq on e85, stock exhaust other than the muffler delete. My car beat out all of the 93 octane full bolt on cars at a recent GT86 dyno day here in DFW.

Although not UEL, but it shows that this person hit 198.5whp with PTUNING EL and 91 gas

You can too reach 200 whp with 93 octane. It's called a good tuner and a JDL UEL.

The only real way to test it is to strap it to multiple dynos since none are the same. So many variables throw off numbers.

Sorry, mis-read the first post. But if you read his post, he claims over 200hp, but the dyno he posts of the 91 octane car only shows 170hp. They did not post a graph of 91 octane making 200hp, only claimed it.

Although comparing numbers from different dynos in different locations is useless. Just because one dyno says 200hp doesn't mean another one will. Based on the cars at the DFW dyno day, e85 cars performed better than all of the 91 cars. There were a mix of cars using Delicious Tuning and OFT.

You can check out the thread below for videos / graphs. I'll be replying with mine shortly.

yeah I get your point now. well I guess touching 200whp don't mean anything without a baseline

Basically, yeah. Numbers don't mean anything unless you have numbers from other cars on the same dyno with similar weather conditions.

Thats what makes virtual dyno such a great tuning tool still. The numbers don't matter, just need to see where power is being made and how tweaks to the tune affects the powerband. Its always best to be on a dyno to stay consistent though.
