I had thought that too in the back of my head.
I can't imagine it being tuned up significantly unless they fiddled with the internals.

If Toyota locks away some of the fun via tuning, OFT and ecutek will have a field day selling devices for basic stage 1 tunes.

I could see Toyota/Subaru giving the 2017+ final drive for the mid year refresh. Wish they would just give us the more aggressive FD right off the bat. I hate modifying cars and don't want to modify the FD myself.

Yeah we know. Don't worry, it will all shake out before long.

If I can ask (even if its not in the vid) if you can please get the dyno don on the BRZ too and post it over?

I really don't think the BRZ dyno will be any different than the GR86 at WOT. Engine timing, AFR, etc. are probably all the same since all this stuff impact emissions. If there's truly an engine ecu tuning difference, it's probably just a difference in throttle pedal position vs. 'power'.

The subaru will be a final production car. They have enough built already to hand out proper demo cars.

And it will be another data point.

And as the toyota was a prototype and not allowed to be run on road, it could indeed of run with a higher spec tune as emission regs dont effect the track.

So is Singapore Jack going to throw a supercharger on the new car? To my knowledge the only kit teased thus far is HKS.

I think he is just gonna do brakes and suspension, and tires. Time is the problem. I cant take on a build project.

Toyota could have throw in a few gallons of 100 octane in their press cars. This engine really needs 93 or higher octane. Even with 93, it may still knock. It's really hard to compare apples to apples unless you know you're using the highest quality/octane fuel.

Great work with the video, @Dezoris.

I mentioned this already, but if you have a normal wallet like most of us, it's really just a comparison between the ND2 and the GR86/BRZ. It doesn't make sense to buy an S2000 now unless you're just a collector, IMO. My bet is the dealers will ask for MSRP for the GR86/BRZ for a while.

Coming from an AP2 S2000, I am happy to hear this. Sold the S2000 and going into a GR86 as soon as factory takes my order.

The S2000, like Matt Farah said, is becoming too precious to really race day in and day out. I was contemplating stocking entire front ends to keep her going but it was becoming impossibly expensive. Unless Honda re-starts all the manufacturing on all parts, that car has to be relegated to occasional track and show queen otherwise.

That is not my mantra for a fun car. Seat time above all else (for me).

Thanks for the in depth review.

The irony of this is that I'm coming full circle back to the 'twins'. When I bought my S2000, I cross shopped the BRZ and a Lotus Elise. The S2000 was the best overall.

Fast forward 7 years later, I'll be back in a 'twin'.

Still interested to see what he does with it and how it changes the experience. My bet is that he will eventually change his mind and choose to do something to improve the power. Maybe headers and a tune, maybe more. Once you get the suspension, brakes, and wheels/tires sorted is when you really feel the temptation for more power.

Simple, just cut all the time you currently spend on:

1. sleeping
2. eating
3. personal / family time

And repurpose all that time to sweatily wrenching on a small sportscar.

Best of all, you get the ultimate prize of winning the empty approval of internet strangers, and nothing could ever be more important than that.

I kept noticing you complaining about the tires. Are you talking about the base tires(primacy) or the premium tires(pilot sport 4)?

Aren't the pilot sports pretty much the perfect all round tire? Or are you specifically talking about track tires?

LOL. I just dropped off my AP1 for paint restoration, dent repair and paint protection film - my wife doesn't want me to sell it as it's "our" car, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't feel some paranoia driving that around - and the concern about getting replacement parts is real.
Really hoping to get into a GR86, especially once the little ones can climb in the back themselves....
